Boards not too active these days.....
Hahahaha.
Science is easy :) I have a friend who is an astounding knitter. Like, she can read patterns, make patterns and stuff. To me that's impossibly hard. I only know science because I do it.
I actually believe most people have a math or science brain... it's all about finding someone who explains well when you can't get it!
Basically, we have teeny cells in our guts called enteroendocrine cells. They have several receptors and also absorb certain things. For instance, they have lots of receptors activated by glucose/carbs.
A big reason the DS and RNY cure diabetes is this intestinal bypass. The bypass changes how these cells function. We don't know why, but that is why even the gastric bypass has such a huge result.
Also, with the SADI, at this point we actually have 10 year data, since it has been done overseas starting in 2007ish. If you go looking it's not hard to find, however, there are studies from 2010 which have 3 year follow-ups. While ten years is still new for a surgical procedure, well, new-i****'s not bad in terms of studying the outcomes.
Part of it is for my benefit, as eventually a DS or similar is in the cards by the end of the year. Part is also for the clients I see, as the best Chicago surgeons are doing both. I need to be informed even if it's a procedure I will not get.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
I'm left brain as well, but more math oriented than science. I got a D in chemistry class...all those hypotheses messed with my head. Don't give me IF, give me x lol
It's fascinating that you are delving so deeply into this subject. I actually get what you're saying lol. However, I admit that I'm at an age where I try not to tax my brain too much...I did that my entire career! When I start seeing too many big words and I know I'm going to have to concentrate and focus, my eyes start to glaze over anymore. I'm like....nooooooooooo, I just wanna watch YouTube videos and read short, pointless articles in trashy online newspapers!
I and my brain are officially retired hahahaha
I don't know if you need a better social life but I do know that the world needs people like you! Curiosity and the smarts to figure it out. Enteroendocrine cells. Good Golly. Thanks for posting!

I'm a newish member, still pre-op and read, read, read the forum but I don't post much, but I'm not a prolific poster on any site.
I'll reply to a post if I feel I have anything to add, but I'm ever aware that being preop means that I don't have the experience to add a valid view or opinion. I can hardly talk the talk when I haven't yet walked the walk!
