the American Society for Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery does not recommend children's vitamins since they're not complete, but it could be Flintstones Complete has more than other children's vitamins.

Your surgery was this month? Vitamin deficiencies won't show up until 6 months to a year or sometimes longer after surgery, so keep checking! Your levels now are a reflection of your pre-surgery nutritional intake.

Surgeons ultimately aren't the ones who have to deal with vitamin deficiencies - we are. Flinstones are not a complete vitamin for adults. The ASMBS recommends that we get 200% of most vitamins and minerals as well as 1500 mg of Calcium CITRATE per day.

And, sadly, testing isn't always comprehensive nor is it super useful so soon after surgery. Levels being "okay" doesn't matter much without information on trends. You can be "okay" but trending downward and at the bottom of the range and just "okay" wouldn't tell you that you're actually in the danger zone.

Ultimately it's up to us to make sure that we're supplementing correctly and to track our lab results and, in some cases, even to ensure we're getting the right lab work done.

I trust my doctors. I didn't spend years in medical school so for some thing like this I will trust them. I fully believe they aren't going to allow me to become vitamin deficient. You are correct I am very recent out of surgery and I will continue to take the things my surgery team suggests.

And that's great to believe in them. You can do that and, at the same time, track your own results in a spreadsheet to make sure that they're not missing concerning trends because they've got potentially hundreds of patients to pay attention to and you just have you. Belief in your team is awesome. Combine that with self-advocacy and you've got a winning combination. These things are not mutually exclusive.

If your team is not having you take calcium (which you didn't mention in the post you deleted), it is in your own best interest to ensure that your PTH is being checked and that you're having regular DEXA scans to prevent bone loss.

I trust my doctors and I am insisting on getting a DEXA scan and PTH for baseline pre-op. The baseline read of both is important. Absolutely get them before surgery if you can.

Hell, many places do a DEXA for $50 these days. You need the baseline for comparisons, especially for malabsorption procedures.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Check Celebrate Vitamins website they have this sampler packet... it used to be $3 I think it's $9 now but they added protein shake samples and some other stuff and you get a coupon for whatever the price is off your first order... oodles of types to try chewable, chewy, liquid, different flavors... I get bored easy... well after all these years too... so it was a nice way to try different flavors and I rotate.
