Weight loss rate

I am wondering how people lose weight who are of a similar size to me. I hear everyone say the first month you should expect big numbers. Well, preop, before liquid diet, I was 221. Day of surgery 209, which was two weeks later.

I have followed the post op diet of protein and full liquids carefully. Only triple zero yogurt, premier and lean protein shakes, and some progreso soup all blended to completely smooth texture, with occasional protein powder. Nothing else. Calories between 400 and 600.

I am now 205. More than two weeks out. Loss of only 4 pounds. Is that normal? I kept hearing that people dropped a lot. Am I doing anything wrong? I'm still tired a lot, but get minimum 5000 steps and usually more than 6000.

This planner can give you a good idea.

But everyone loses weight different. Not to mention, immediately post-op, people usually gain a few pounds from the fluids used in surgery.

How much liquid are you getting each day? It's not abnormal to have lost 4 pounds in two weeks. Everyone loses differently.

Try increasing your fluids to 96oz. That might help counteract the sodium from the processed soup as well!

So, since you were 218 after surgery due to fluids, you've actually lost 13 pounds in the last 18 days. Umm, that's pretty darn good, if you ask me! It took me a week just to lose what I gained in surgery. Don't discount that!

I have never looked at that planner. It is really optimistic.

This is what is has for me each month to lose 75% of my excess weight by month 18..

These are my actual monthly losses to get to 75% in 18 months.

M1: 21 M2: 11.5 M3: 13.6 M4: 20 M5: 8.7 M6: 6.7
M7: 16 M8: 7.1 M9: 7.7 M10: 4.6 M11: 4 M12: 7
M13: 9 M14: 0 M15: 13 M16: 9 M17: 5 M18: 1

I didn't lose big numbers up front but I kept losing steadily. My Dr said the first 6 weeks are for healing, not weight loss. If you are following your program and getting you protein and fluids in, the weight till come off.

Give up the canned soup. Bone broth would be better. Or Unjury chicken protein powder.

4 pounds in a week is a lot considering your body has gone through a traumatic experience. Your body is focused on repairing itself after losing the majority of a major organ.

Just because you don't have big losses up front doesn't mean you won't get there in the end. Just focus on healing.

I like comparing my total weight loss month to month against that planner. I'm 7 days short of 9 months and at my current weight of 180 it claims that I'm on track for losing 100% of my excess weight.

The loses in the first 2 months though are really huge and unrealistic. 33 pounds each for months one and two?

It calculates all weight loss in an 18 month time span, like it is impossible to lose after 18 months. Stuffing all the loss into 18 months and perpetuating the idea that you have massive losses early on, and keeps the honeymoon myth going.

No wonder people are constantly disappointed with their loses.

Just wait it out and it will come off. Your body is strange those first weeks. Also; you aren't out far enough yet to see any averages. I have lost anywhere from .4lbs to 5.4lbs per week, but my average comes out to 2lbs per week or so. I started at 229lbs.
