Jennie,

The procedure itself is not a concern. I was just like you nervous, but excited at the same time of what my future self would become after weight loss surgery. You will be fine!!!

It is very normal to be scared. We've all been there. Find a relaxing activity to do when your fears seem like they are getting the best of you.

The liquid stage is the hardest, especially when everyone else is eating foods you love.

Don't feel bad if you need to excuse yourself during meals. Your family should understand that this is difficult. And to make up that time not spent with your family at meals, have a family game night, or watch a movie (sans popcorn) or go for a nice walk.

Youll get through this. You are doing a wonderful things for yourself, your heart, body and soul.

Best wishes!

I wasn't scared at all. You try to speak for everyone who ever had wls when you say " we ALL ...".

Didn't mean to offend anyone. Just trying to help a fellow WLS person.

It's perfectly normal to be feeling this way. For me it was such a long process, I was so happy about getting a surgery date, I was in cloud nine for a long time. However, as it grew closer being nervous, scared, second guessing, its completely normal.

I had to do opti for two weeks before surgery (liquid diet), and a week into it I had a bit of an emotional break down to, where I shed a few tears. I had great support from my family to help me get through it. Its okay to break down a bit, its major surgery and a huge life style change. It's a lot to 'mourn' in a way.

You will do great, the liquid diet is hard and like I said everything your feeling is normal, and I hope you get to feeling more excited about your upcoming surgery, because it is exciting!!!

Try and relax the best you can. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Orientation April 2016 - Final approvals December 2016. Surgical Class January 23, 2017. Met with Dr. Reed February 7, 2017. Opti start date March 1, 2017. Surgery March 15, 2017 (Dr. Foute-Nelong).

The procedure is amazingly quick and the results will leave you with a new, positive outlook on life. I was worried too, but now I see what a small price to pay that was for a second chance. I am a month out and it gets better every day. So try not to worry too much, you will look back and be happy you did it.

I'm not "speaking for everyone who ever had WLS" (sheesh!) but it's completely normal to be nervous and scared. The liquid diet was the hardest part for me and it felt like it went on forever! Just take it one foot in front of the other and rest in the fact that you've done all your research and worked very hard for this. You'll do great!!

Jennie, it's funny. The only thing I was nervous about was that my surgeon would find something that would cancel my surgery or postpone it. I wasn't worried at all about the surgery itself. The first few weeks were tough, I cried too, but once the weight started falling off, I felt better and better. Good luck!
