Suggestions on what to do
on 5/14/17 7:06 pm
I started tracking everything I was eating a little over 6 weeks pre op, making sure I wa****ting water and protein goals that i knew I'd have to meet post surgery. I started trying all the shakes, drinking one a day, so I would know what to get for the pre/post op diet. I tried samples of the vitamins and then ordered the ones I needed for post op. I bought a digital scale and a food scale. I started building more exercise into my day. Basically I tried to start good habits and prepare as much as possible. I am still pre op so I can't look back to reflect on what I wish I did differently, but right now anyway I feel good about how I used the waiting time.
Find a therapist if you don't have one already. (But I think you do?)
Get used to measuring/weighing your food and logging everything with MyFitnessPal.
Read everything. (Pre-op I read through ALL the archives in the VSG forum here. I also read a few books on the topic.)
Keep as busy/distracted as you can.
Find a protein shake (or multiples) that you like, but don't stock up too much since your tastes might change. (Mine didn't.)
Day dream about all the awesome things you'll do post-op :)

Make a pinterest board! I made one with "skinny people clothes" and had lots of fun window-shopping :)

There are some great suggestions above.
One other tip is to stop drinking during eating, and for 30 minutes after. It seems like a little thing, but it was one of the most surprisingly difficult adjustments I had to make.
We have so, so many changes we have to make after surgery. Some are so we can heal properly. Some are to lose weight.
Many people make NO changes in the weeks and months before surgery. Then they hit a wall, and can't cope. Every single change you can make now will mean the postop life will be easier. And getting a good running start on weight loss will make reaching goal easier as well.

The drinking suggestion is great. We're so used to drinking during meals so that can be a hard habit to break!

While I'm MOSTLY good with it, I still find myself wanting to drink... it's hard at times, and definitely one of the hardest things to get used to.
