it's the 15 pounds you've regained! This is so depressing, it has snuck up on me little by little and now it seems REALLY overwhelming. NP says to eat 1500 calories w/ the usual 60-100 protien; but don't seem to be losing with that calorie level and really can't see me going lower w/o being hungry! I know there are people who do it, but how do you keep from being hungry! I am hungry every 3-4 hours like clockwork, even if I eat an all protein meal. I was wishing so bad that I would be one of the lucky people who maintained with out much issue, but it looks like that's not going to be the case

Part of the reason you might be getting hungry is because you're eating too many carbs and those can trigger hunger. Try swapping out some carbs for dense proteins which will keep you full for longer.

(And, yes, you'll probably be hungry and feel crummy for a few days.)

I just spent some time looking over your posting history.

You said that your surgeon's plan calls for 3 meals a day with no snacking - are you adhering to that still?

Did you ever get a kitchen scale so you could accurately track your intake?

Did you ever talk to your doctor about the GERD symptoms you were experiencing? Acid can mimic hunger.

How much fluid do you get in each day? Dehydration can also cause hunger.

So it seems like you never made your goal (all your posts state wanting to lose 20 more pounds) and now you've gained 15. So you're 35 above your goal?

You know what you need to do, which is to cut back the calories you eat. Prioritize dense protein, skip the processed and refined carbs and watermelon. Go back to your three meals a day, no snacks. You'll be hungry and it'll suck for a few days, but your body will adapt - you've got fat stores to use. Make sure you're getting in at least 64 ounces of liquid a day, the non-caloric kind. Track your food, accurately using a food scale, so that you know exactly what's going into your body every day.

Follow-up on the GERD thing.

From your earlier posts, I'm concerned that you see all calories as being equal, but I'm pretty sure if you were eating 1000 calories of protein you'd feel a lot different than if you were eating 1000 calories of carbs. And, right now, even if you're getting 100 grams of protein a day, that's only 400 of the 1500 calories you're consuming. Those other 1100 calories of non-protein are going to cause your body to be hungry and crave more food.

I did reach my surgeon's goal and if I could lose the 15 pounds gained that's where I'd be., which would be great.

I do have a scale, but got away from food prep and started "grabbing something small" while at work. I know this is a problem.

GERD- he has taken all his patients off Prilosec and is encouraging Pepcid x 2 a day. I do think that does make me feel hungry so I take my Pepcid and wait 30 minutes to see if it passes.

NP.- says they don't care if I eat 3 times a day or 5 small meals, just want me to get protein and water in and keep carbs low.

Im not fooling myself, I know how I've gained, eating snacks and not getting protein and water in. It's just REALLY frustrating bc I feel like I'm back presurgery and unable to get myself under control. I am carb craving so badly I feel like a drug addict .. lol

No , I asked them to refer me to one , but they said I should do my f/u with them first. Which I did. I'd like to find someone close that deals with food issues but not sure where to start.

I recommend getting a list from your insurance company and working through it. While a therapist who specializes in food issues is ideal, it's not necessary and it can be hard to find to the point where a therapist is better than no therapist at all.

Finding a good therapist is not easy. Like you, I asked the therapist at my weight center for a referral. She gave me two names, but when I called their offices I was told they were not accepting new patients. Tried to find someone specializing in food/weight issues... some names came up in my search results but when I looked further into their profiles Everything but the kitchen sink was listed as a specialty, such as addiction, marriage/relationship, yada yada Yoda. Tried two therapists who looked promising but turned out to be big disappointments. Third time was a charm... finally found a great therapist.

I'd start looking now because it's a real project to find a good therapist.
