hey there,

I got the lap band out ( I went from 219 to 165 and gained all of it back. My band had a manufacturers defect and was keeping my stomach swollen 24/7 resulting in my body thinking it was being starved) so anyway, Tuesday I got the darn band out and was revised to the sleeve. The mental hunger has been intense. I have more swelling than most so recovery has been rough so far. I have a large incision where the port was removed and holy hell that sucker hurts and is bruised. On top of that I got my period but I no longer have to give myself those shots to thin my blood( thanks Mother Nature!). So what I'm asking is I finally got my swelling down and think I'm ready for stage two in another day or so. I'm taking everything very slowly of course. What clear liquids and stage two food did you do best with that tricked your mind into thinking you're not starving? I'm a mom of three boys and my boyfriend is so supportive and very on top of me losing the weight so I love myself again but damn they just eat and eat! I don't give in, just kinda secretly hate them for half a second lol. (Not really) but even if it's just sugar free pudding and having something of substance in my mouth would be wonderful. Hope you're all doing well, thanks

What does stage two mean for your surgeon? Not all of us have numbered stages :)

I didn't have a clear liquid stage post-op. I have two weeks of full liquids, 2 weeks of pureeds, 2 weeks soft solids, and then my forever diet.

In addition - at this point hunger is most often caused by dehydration or acid. Are you taking a PPI such as Prilosec or nexium?

I agree with Gwen...it depends on what your surgeon's plan says for you. My plan was:

Phase 1 - Week 1 - Clear Liquids
Phase 2 - Weeks 2-4 - Semi-solid moist foods (soft foods)
Phase 3 - Week 5 - Add proteins (except solid beef and pork, no legumes)
Phase 4 - Weeks 6-7 - Add canned fruits and cooked vegetables
Phase 5 - Week 8 - Add whole grain starches, beans, raw veggies and fruit
Phase 6 - Week 9 and ongoing - Add nuts and protein bars

3 months - Citrus, lean beef and pork now allowed
6 months - Sugar free gum and popcorn now allowed

So as you can see, very different from Gwen's plan.

The plan is clear liquids for up to five days unless you feel you can tolerate stage two which is puréed foods like pudding, applesauce etc. this is within 10 days post op then I go see my surgeon for a follow up.

I'd go to protein shakes and thicker forms of protein like cottage cheese and yogurt. Applesauce won't be useful to your body, so I'd skip it.

I puréed lots of stuff - hard boiled eggs, curry, meatballs, fish, chili, etc. Always protein forward. Whatever I had cooked for my family.
