How accurately do you track homemade food?

I measure everything I eat for portion size, but I find accurately tracking homemade food in myfitnesspal to be too much of a pain. Do you put in the effort to track your homemade meals?
Totally agree, Cecily. I, too, am single, but I also know that I'm going to be making my favorite recipes a lot, so inputting into your fave app (I use Baritastic instead of MFP) once is worth the time.
Plus, let's face it...whether you'r inputting into an app or just logging it in a book, you still have to figure it all up to know what you're eating. May as well take that extra step and get it into your app.
well I tracked pretty accurately but it was because most of what i made didn't have a lot of combined ingredients. Like a grilled chicken breast and green beans. But if you make an egg baked di****s not too hard to estimate the total content and then divide by portion size. Thats what I used to do. I no longer track but I did for four years after surgery. GL. Absolutely. Rather than assembling a dish in MFP I just enter in the components. Half a chicken breast, 2T spaghetti sauce, 1oz shredded cheese, for example.

Every bite that goes in my mouth gets tracked on my fitness pal. If it is a recipe that I know I will use over and aver then I will enter it is the recipe builder but otherwise I just enter in the components like how Sparklekitty mentioned. I tend to be a creature of habit and eat the and things on a regular basis so for me that helps.

i like tracking home made food. i enter the recipe into mfp, and then i decide how many servings to divide it into so the calories per meal come out on target. it is worth the effort.

It's a great tool when your recipe uses the same ingredients and quantities, each time and you tend to make them often. I use mfp & I like being able to import recipes from the web & "tweak" them because I may use a lower carb or nonfat product as well as changing the number of servings to reflect my-size portions.
In recipes when there's a stew or a sauce, I've been weighing & tracking the protein separately. Is this the most accurate way to do so? I don't know, but it's been working for me (I weigh, measure & track everday) and I use it as a planning tool so I know that I will stay within a range of calories/carbs, especially if we go out for a meal.
It can be a pain, but I also enter my recipes in mfp..I like to try to keep them simple, and it's great when you can import and/or scan the Barcode and it pulls it right up.
