What surgery is more successful .

I want to lose around 100 lbs

I would do some research on both procedures. Go visit some WLS support groups and hear what they are saying. I originally wanted RNY, but my surgeon said the Sleeve would work better for me. I spent a few extra months researching the Sleeve and had my surgery in 2014. I've never been happier with this decision. Only regret, wished I had done this sooner.

I chose the sleeve because I didn't want my intestines messed with. I would have chosen RNY if I would have had diabetes. I lost 97 lbs in 8 months! I plan on losing about 40 more lbs.

Both gastric bypass and sleeve are successful if you put in the work. Usually if you are interested in the surgery it is required for you to attend an informational seminar and then you can meet with a surgeon and discuss which will work better for you.

Do your research. go to seminars, etc. The vsg, rny & ds are good surgeries, but you have to choose what is best for you. Each person that responds can only tell you what surgery was best for them, you still have to do the work to find out what is best for you.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel

All surgery types can be successful if you follow instructions and work your tool.

I'd suggest speaking to a surgeon to get his/her insight on which might be best for your particular medical situation.

I'm a little confused. You are asking for input regarding which surgery to choose - but your profile says you're scheduled for the VSG on June 2.

What am I missing? Have you committed to the VSG? If you have, it might be a good idea to post that here so that others will not waste any time providing their thoughts and experiences to a mind that is already made up.

I'd also hazard a guess that posting this question on the VSG board might skew the resultant answers somewhat

Rny and Vsg are statistically pretty comparable as far as total weight loss. Rny is better for resolving diabeties, although Vsg does to just not at as high of a rate. Higher risk with Rny, but still very safe. Rny is better for acid managment, worse for dealing with reactive hypoglycemia. So it depends- determine what your medical needs are, consult the doc, and decide from there.

The VSG is a diet with a smaller stomach. It is restrictive only so if you don't eat healthy, small quantities, and minimal carbs then long term you will regain weight.
