I was definitely nervous about having surgery - and did allot of second guessing before hand. But bottom line - I knew long term I would be better for it having the surgery. I had my surgery on April 3rd and don't regret it at all - my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!!

You will do great - and be so much healthier afterwards. I can't wait to sit next to you on the loser's bench!!

Stay positive... it's all going to work out!!

Lots of people have second thoughts. Its normal. I had surgery at age 58. I am now 65 and have never regretted it. I could not have lost 120 lbs without it and have kept most of it off - still have a normal bmi. Go for it before they decide you are too old. Some surgeons won't operate on anyone over 65. It will add years to your life. You don't see many obese 80 year old people. GL. Diane S

I was 59 and had many of the same thoughts..... I initially thought about the surgery probably 7 years prior. I also had a wife that discouraged me at that time because she was worried about the surgery itself and the drastic changes and safety in her eyes for an elective surgery. Today she is an advocate! and I'm 145 lbs lighter!

Would I do it again, ohhh... and again absolutely!!!!!

We are having surgery the same day so we should keep in touch! I've been a nurse for many years and i'm having some anxiety about having surgery where I work and I am well aware of all the complications. I had the lap band for 10 years and was able to lose 50 pounds at the most but currently am about 20 pounds from my highest so it wasn't successful. I had the band removed in Feb and scheduled the sleeve for May so I've been feeling like it is such a distant event but tomorrow starts the full liquid diet so it is getting real and i'm trying to stay calm.

I'm having a lot of the same feelings about why can't i do it myself but having done every diet out there, i can lose it but never keep it off long term. I know 2 people who had the sleeve in the past year and say it is the best thing they've done in their lives. I know it will be the same for us! In 6 months, we will question why we ever doubted having the surgery or why we waited!

When are you starting full liquids?

My surgeon has me on protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, and a lean protein and green veggies only for dinner. I started that today. So far, so good! I'll add you as a friend on this site and we can compare notes!

I am just going to add to the litany of responses to reaffirm that it is perfectly normal to get a little nervous. It is also very normal to think that you can do it without the surgery, but as your experience has demonstrated unequivocally it is extremely unlikely. Do the surgery now and regain mobility, strength, and stamina while you still can. Don't back out unless something creeps up in your health that would necessitate it. You will be so glad you did it, and in as little as 6 months you could be at your goal weight instead of battling the war you have been fighting. Do it. Do it. Do it!
