Need some advice!

I had lapband surgery 2013. The problem is today I went for my third band fill and it was discovered that my band had a leak and is not useless. The Dr. has informed me that my options are limited. I can have the band removed, I can leave it in wide open or I can have gastric sleeve surgery. I am very terrified of having any surgery but my options are very limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might consider posting this in the Revision forum...there are people there who have been through this.

I wouldn't leave it in. Sooner or later, it will cause enough problems and complications that it will have to come out anyway. Better it comes out now, on your schedule, than down the line as an emergency. Nothing good can come of leaving it where it is.

More and more, insurance companies are writing a "one WLS per lifetime" rule into their policies. If you have the band taken out now and revise to VSG or RNY, you might be covered, because the band malfunctioned. If you take the band out now and want to revise later on, you might find that you are not covered. Just something to consider.

Good luck.

I had the gastric sleeve surgery on March 27th, I would recommend it to anyone.

I had a band to vsg revision in September 2016. I'm very happy with it. My recovery was the same or easier than putting in the band in 2009. My surgeon removed the band and did the sleeve in the same operation. It was done outpatient, and I was released the same day.
