Binge eating
- I am going to my doctor on Thursday, I have had eating disorders as far back as I can remember. I had been in an outpatient center for bulimia and compulsive eating, and have struggled with weight, finally getting sleeved 2/3/17. The weight loss has been slow and steady, have been binging for the last month at least once a week. I obsess about food and plan what I am going to binge on. I know there are at least 2 people on here that have experience with this, my appointment Thursday is to discuss medication that has been discussed on this forum. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
What sort of input are you looking for? Do you have specific questions?

You had your WLS on 2/3/17? I am curious what you are bingeing on because I could barely eat 2oz the first few months.
Good that you are getting treatment right away. My BF is a compulsive eater. She is normal weight but obsessed with food. Last weekend we went out to lunch she had a Caesar salad a coffee drink made with half and half and two deserts. When she got home another friend called her to go out for a late lunch. She went. She just can't say no to food. The amount of time and energy she puts into shame and self loathing breaks my heart.
From day one I have been able to eat and drink. I don't keep a lot of crap in house but ate half a lb of cheddar, quarter lb butter, 1/4 cup whipped peanut butter..Doesn't make sense! My high weight was 227, current weight is 187. One bite out of norm and I non stop eat, including half a jar off sugar free jelly...Out of the blue, food talks to me.."I'm here, come eat me"...It's sick! I know I sound like a nut! I'm a nurse, and raise an 11 yo grandson! I'm not living in A mental ward, I guess I need some ideas of how to talk to my practitioner without sounding crazy!
Good heavens! I'm nearly 6 months out and I can only manage 4-6oz at a sitting. I can't imagine being able to eat a half a pound of cheese!! I wonder if your surgeon didn't make your sleeve too big? I mean, it's not going to help your binge eating, but that's a LOT of food for how close you are to surgery.
Sadly, I understand. Immediately post-op your nerves are severed and healing, so it is possible to overeat without being aware. But later? When I was in the worst throes of BED I could no longer hear my body saying, "hey, you're full." Once I started medication I could hear that again.

Are you seeing a therapist? Did you have a psych evaluation prior to surgery?
If you're not working with a therapist already, start that ASAP. When you see your PCP, be honest about what you've said here - you can't keep yourself from putting food in your mouth. Are you hungry when you eat? Tell your PCP what you've tried to keep yourself from eating and how often you've binged as well as what you've binged on. Any information you can provide will help with diagnosis and, ultimately, treatment.
You're very lucky that you didn't do significant damage to your newly healing stomach.
