How long until you could eat beef jerky?

Husband is eating delicious beef jerky from farmers' market right now and it made me wonder when I could have a piece! I'm 19 days post-op VSG. Thanks!
I didn't even attempt beef jerky until I was about 4 months out from surgery. Every surgeon's guidance is different, but I wasn't allowed non-ground meat (beef or pork) 'til after 3 months. And that's freshly cooked, easy to chew meat. My advice would be to wait at least 2 or 3 months before attempting it, and then chew it until it's practically a paste before swallowing. It can tend to be gristly as well, so I'd spit that part out (I do that).
Probably when you hit solid foods according to your surgeon's plan. But you should check with your surgeon.

I didn't attempt it until I was cleared for normal foods at 7 weeks out. I found Jerky to be easy for me to eat. I get just the Jack Link's beef teriyaki flavor. I love it. I also love the dual beef stick and cheddar stick. Not exactly high quality cheese, but I enjoy them.

Jack's Link is probably my favorite overall. Krave is good, and has very interesting flavors. I never considered making my own jerky. I wonder how difficult it is.

It's super easy! Get a piece of meat, slice it into thin strips, and marinate it overnight in the fridge. Then you lay it on dehydrator trays and run for 8 - 10 hours until it's as crispy as you like.
I make several pounds every week, and it only takes about 20 minutes of hands-on time, tops.

I flew at the 8 week mark and thought that Jerky was better quality protein than protein bars. I gave it a go with no issues and I now it eat it nearly daily. I had tried other beef cuts first and chewed, chewed, chewed.

It would make it easier to answer questions if we knew when your surgery date was. You can enter your surgery type and date into your permanent header, and it would help you a lot.
