1 week post up

Hi all, I am 1 week out from surgery. My question is my abdomen is tender but soft and distended. Did anyone else have this? It feels swollen and I burp after each sip I Take. So I am not making my fluid goal. I a, not dehydrated but I am concerned of the swelling. Any thoughts?

Completely normal in my experience, just try to relax.. Just keep an eye on your incisions. If you observe anything abnormal, contact your surgeon's office. Otherwise, try to recover as best as you can. Eventually you'll end up with a sort of "knot" under one of your incisions which will dissipate by about the 3rd month.

You're lucky you're only burping after drinking. I was getting the hiccups, which was quite painful.

You definitely should be concerned about dehydration - you might be getting in too much air when you drink. Try drinking from a straw or a sippy cup instead, that might help your drinking technique.

Swelling is normal, but call your surgeon if you've concerned. Walk as much as you can to help the gas dissipate.

Do everything in your power to get your fluids in. You may not feel dehydrated, but if you're not meeting your goals, you could become so.

Try drinking fluids at different temperatures. Sip slowly, but often. Take little sips if you're burping.

On the TMI front, have you had a bowel movement yet? It could be a reason why your stomach feels distended.
