Did your periods come back after VSG?
Hi, this is my first post. I'm 39 and about to have VSG in a couple weeks. My period stopped a few years ago and I was hoping to hear from anyone who experienced the same thing and got their period back after losing weight?
Unless they have a BMI over 50, most women's periods will return when they have lost 10- 15 % of their starting body weight.
Please keep in mind that you will ovulate before your period so take precautions.
I lost 80 pounds when I was 46... about 17 years ago... our youngest child will be 18 in July.
It's been almost 5 years. I haven't had one period since surgery.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
Fat stores estrogen hormones - it's designed to do this by nature. This is one of the main reasons why women whose bodyfat is too low, or high, typically have conception issues. As you lose weight the estrogen will be released and flood the body. Many people get their periods back, and some of us even get mood swings from it.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much...the life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully. -- Seneca, On the Shortness of Life
I am 33 and my BMI pre op was 65+. I was still having my period but it was always unpredictable..maybe it would skip a month, or maybe 2 in one month..but since surgery it has become much more regular. The PMS is worse in my opinion. I have an appointment in a few weeks with my GYN for a yearly exam and am looking into some time of birth control.
I'm 58 and went through menopause for 8 years, finally went over one year without a period last year. I was DONE! Well now.... except for the half day period I had 2 days after surgery last week.
And I've been having night sweats since with a few hot flashes thrown in for extra fun.
I figure it's just my bod deciding how to deal with the changes I'm putting it through.
