Hi everyone, about 6 weeks out and know that my diet is advanced I'm satisfied hunger wise but my stomack always hurts. Am I eating to fast. I'm thrilled to add protein with food since premier shakes that I loved hurt terribly. Any suggestions or is this common.

What, exactly, are you eating? What size are your portions - you should be weighing/measuring them? How long does it take you to finish?

What's the pain like?

Have you called your surgeon? You should.

Tu for your reply. I eat very little, I'm going to start weighing. I'm eating turkey burgers mostly. Cottage cheese, last night I ate a cracker to try to help. I'll give it one more day we have 2 ft of snow today. I think it's time to call. Thanks again!

I am more then a year and a half out and still can't eat turkey burger. That may be part of your problem. For me it sat in my stomach like a rock and made my stomach hurt for hours.

From my experience, I am going to say it is the turkey burger giving you the trouble. I tried it once, but it cause so much pain that it will definitely be awhile before I go there again. I tried it about 7 weeks out from surgery.

Definitely talk to your surgeon about your pain.

For me, early on (and even now) when I haven't taken a proper #2 it translates into pain. It is not always pain in my abdomen. Last week it was a chest pain. Another time it was a pain in my back.

Even this far out I can eat to fast and my stomach hurts. I have to put my plate in one room and walk back and forth getting one bite at a time. I usually do laundry or help my son with homework to keep myself distracted.

I can drink cold water and it hurts my stomach. Some days it is OK and other days that cold hitting that empty sleeve feels like someone is kicking from the inside out.

So you see pain can stem from lots of different reasons. Call the doc to put your mind at ease.

Ground meat is notoriously hard to digest. They use the toughest cuts and grind them up. Have you tried tuna or tilapia? White, flaky, fish is easy on the stomach. For some reason shrimp worked better for me than anything else when I was early out of surgery.

You said you favorite protein shake hurts? Could you be lactose intolerant? I had a terrible upset stomach with diarrhea for months until I figured out that my protein powder was loaded with lactose and I had become intolerant after surgery. Check the label. If it contains whey concentrate, it contains lactose. Whey isolate is 99% lactose free. Try going dairy free for a week and see if you improve. I can't drink milk, but can eat cheese and Greek yogurt. The process of making them eats up a lot of lactose so I don't get sick from them.

I do the same thing with eating. I leave my plate in the kitchen, go back and forth, while getting stuff done around the house. If not, I eat too fast which makes my stomach hurt and prohibits me from getting much food down. It's soooo hard to learn to eat slow.
