Hey everyone! I'm trying to get everything that is needed for post op. Do you think an abdominal binder is a necessity?

I was given one by the hospital so before buying one you may want to ask if they will give you one. I was so grateful for mine, the compression really helped the incisions to not pull when I was trying to walk or when getting up and down.

Yep, hospital gave me one. It helped a lot the first several days.

I didn't hear about one until about 2 months after surgery. I really don't think that it would have made a difference for me.

Me either. I only had a pillow.

I didn't have one and don't think I would have needed it.

I didn't use one. I always felt like it'd get in the way. For the ride home, I just put a pillow against my tummy for bumps on the road... After that, it was a fast recovery.

I've never actually heard about anyone needing an abdominal binder after WLS. Only in the context of plastic surgery! (So clearly I didn't have one.)

I didn't have one either......used a pillow and had no problems......heard about it after my wls....and not sure I would have wanted one if it had been an option....sounds too much like a girdle to me.....LOL

I liked it because it meant I could sleep on my side pretty quickly and it seemed to keep everything held in when I walked so there was no unnecessary moving of incisions. I stopped wearing it after a week once my incisons didn't ache anymore.
