My son is 6 and I had surgery just before he got out of school for Christmas break. I had surgery Wednesday afternoon, discharged Thursday after lunch, and Friday I drove him to school for his Christmas party and picked him up. I didn't need anyone as I was able to care for myself, but he was able to help with the dogs and occasionally get me a drink or something. Any lifting I saved for my hubby, unless my son was capable of doing it like taking out the trash and such.

My husband and I had surgery the same day. Our doctor said someone should stay with us for the first 24 hours. Our surgeries were in the afternoon and we were home by the next afternoon. My sister spend the night and we sent her home before lunch time and did great. I did shop before surgery and cleaned the house. We had no issues.

The only thing I really needed anyone for -- was driving me around. I was still taking pain meds for about a week after I got home. I would ask my dad take me to Walmart or Publix just so I could get out of the house and walk, walk, walk.

Other than the drive home, I didn't need anyone to stay with me. Background: I had a revision from lap band to vsg, band removed the same day of the sleeve. It was done outpatient, I had my surgery at about 8 am, released by 4 pm the same day.

Good luck on your surgery and congratz!

I was good to go soon as I got home. I don't suggest this but I coached a basketball game about 5 days post op. I had no issues just listen to your body and do what your doc says.
