How long will I need someone to stay home with me after the surgery?

I was just chatting with a friend who stayed with her mom for 2 weeks after bypass. I would prefer not to be away from my husband and daughter for 2 weeks and my husband would not be able to take that much time off.

Recovery is different for everyone, but I would have been fine alone as soon as I got home. I was able to get to the fridge and sink and bathroom with no trouble.

I was in the hospital for about 36 hours total. Morning of surgery until afternoon of the following day.

I was walking around and even using the treadmill the first day. By the second day I was cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and light housework. Nobody stayed with me.

I agree with Gwen. But my mom and I had the surgery at the same time. We drove from Eagle Pass Texas back to Tucson on the third day after our surgery. I was back to work, floor nursing at the time, within a week. The only reason I had someone with me was due to not living alone. But I had no need for someone by my side 24/7.

I'd say it depends how long you are in hospital before discharge. I've read some people go home day of surgery, or next day. If that is the plan, then you'd need someone a few days. I had surgery Thurs, home Saturday evening and would have been fine on my own. My wife was there and helped run detour on the dogs, but I didnt need any assistance with basic living. She might have helped me lower into bed, but could do on own if needed. :) Hope that helps!

Like others, I was hanging out and watching some tv, but would vacuum, fold laundry, shuffle up and down the street outside a few times all within getting home

I live alone and didn't have anyone stay with me. I spent two nights in the hospital and had a friend drive me home from the hospital and leave after dropping me off. another friend who lives just a couple miles from me was on "stand-by" if I needed urgent help. and had a couple of friends calling me each day to check on me (someone in the morning, afternoon and evening). So I knew that if I didn't answer the phone they would send someone over to check on me.

but honestly I was fine being on my own but everyone is different. I made sure I had the house thoroughly cleaned, all laundry done, stocked up on immediate post op supplies etc. prior to going in for surgery. The biggest thing is the lifting restriction immediately post op. Standing up and sitting back down can be a little uncomfortable by pulling on incisions - I held a pillow against me to kinda brace things and just did it very slowly and was fine.

I was in the hospital for 24 hours and discharged. I was fine at home by myself. I wasn't running marathons, but I was able to get up, take care of myself, and my pets.

Most people don't need any help.

How old is your daughter? The only universal prohibition for activity after surgery is lifting. Usually, it's no lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for six weeks. Other than that, you can do pretty much any normal daily activity. Walking frequently is always encouraged.
