Ravenous!
I am about 12 weeks post op. This week I have been ravenous! I feel like Audrey the plant in Little Shop of Horrors :-) Having a real hard time staying at 1000 cals a day! Pretty much sticking to meat and cheese, some veggies, and a protein shake in the morning. I meet with my nut this Friday for my 3 month checkup, so I will ask her about it also. I have been getting all my protein and H2O in. Any thoughts, and even better, ways to thwart the hunger?
Thanks!
This early out, hunger is often a sign of acid. Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium? And are you sure it's real hunger and not head hunger?

Wish I could help but I'm only a month out and eating about 500 cal/day. I will say that at the middle of my second week I wanted to eat everything and the kitchen sink lol. Then, I got my period. I'm in peri-menopause and am not regular now so I wasn't really thinking about it.
Hope you find the answer to your question.

The little engine that could.....
I'm with you! I just hit 12 weeks and for the last 2 weeks my calories have been creeping up. I know almost everyone on here says I can't be feeling hungry, but my stomach hurts every 2.5 to 3 hours. I take my PPI religiously and have seen the GI doctor and been scoped. I have inflammation in my stomach, but nothing major. I took Carafate for a while, but it really didn't help the stomach pains I get. He says I'm taking the maximum dose of my PPI and says it's probably hunger.
I guess I'm one of those people who get their hunger back early. I drink around 80 ounces of water a day, get 70 grams of protein or more and I am still hungry every 2.5 to 3 hours. I can still only eat small amounts at a time, roughly 1/2 cup in volume or 2-3 ounces of dense protein, but at that 3 hour mark, my stomach starts hurting again. And to top it off, my head hunger has come roaring back! Ack! The cravings!
I'm coming to terms with my stomach, realizing that we are all different and our bodies respond to food and stress and many other things differently. So if I have hunger when no one else does, I'll deal with it. It's still so much better than before, even if I have to eat more frequently, I can still make the best choices and I will be in control of my eating. So I will be jealous of everyone else who doesn't have hunger and has to remind themselves to eat, but I will still be working towards my own victory in my own way.
Keep up the good work and know you are not alone in your struggle!
Thanks for your reply!
I just got back this afternoon from an appointment with my Nutritionist. She said I was doing good and that I was hungry because I was not eating enough! I don't think I have ever heard those words directed at me before :-) Anyways, I was trying to stay around 1000 calories, and she said I should be between 1200 and 1500.
Yes I am jealous of everyone who has to remind themselves to eat too :-) I have been in a bit of a stall for a few weeks now, and she said it is normal. So hang in there, we are going to do just fine!
