How easy old routines are to continue

Before my sleeve and my diet pre-sleeve, one of my worst habits was grazing while working, watching tv, or playing video games (a big hobby of mine). I would constantly snack on things while I ate. It didn't have to be anything big, but candies, chips, crackers, popcorn, anything easy to eat really. Now I am at about a month out from being sleeved and while working, watching tv, and playing video games my urge to grab something and pop in my mouth is huge. I'm not hungry at all, but it is as if my hands and mouth have a mind of their own! However, thanks to the therapy I have been going through for my other issues as well as food issues, I can recognize this happening and am able to stop it. A few months ago I never even would have noticed. I'm thrilled that I catch these "urges" and put a road block on it before I start trying to graze, but it is amazing how ingrained some of our habits are!
What were some of your all's bad habits that you had to really struggle to change, or are still working to change?
Getting snacks for the car when driving to visit my parents' was a big one for me. But it also helped me realize that I needed to seek a diagnosis and treatment for Binge Eating Disorder.

Car snacking seems to be a common thing, thankfully I don't have that. I always hated eating in the car.
For me, it didn't really start until my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I'd get food in the car because my brain felt like it was a way to fortify myself. That didn't work too well, but I created a new habit that became very difficult to break!

I don't for my daily commute, but I am wondering what I'm going to do on my next road trip. For me, it's not a road trip without salty/crunchy snacks and sweet chewy candy snacks. I mean, there's always jerky and cheese sticks, it's not like I can't find an alternative. But that was part of the experience for me, so I wonder if I'll miss those specific things.

I went on a road trip at about 11 months post RNY. It was really the first time I told myself that I'd lighten up on my restrictions a bit "for vacation". OMG, I went crazy with it. I ate so much crap that I gained 10lbs in a week. It was a study in masochism. We would stop at a gas station or someplace like Cracker Barrel, and I'd buy myself a bag of junk. I'd eat a bunch as we started driving again and then I'd feel super sick for half an hour or so. I'd be groaning and moaning in the passenger seat. Then when I would start feeling better, I'd eat some more and get sick again. It was miserable, and honestly I learned my lesson from that trip.
I'm back on the straight and narrow.
Replace your hand to mouth habit with a cup of water. Your habit is no longer a bad habit and you are now fighting dehydration.

I've been keeping a bottle of water with me at all times just for that. I flavor it with some of those little water packets to keep water interesting, it is helping me a lot.
