How did you set your goal?

I'm 5'3" tall.  My surgeon asked me what my goal was and I told him 175.  All I ever wanted was to be a size 14, and I never wanted to be skinny.  He said that was a healthy outlook and a good goal, so that's what it is (for now).  Naturally, I may change my mind once I get there but that's what it is for now.

I don't recall my doc actually giving me a goal.  I just set my goal for the 'normal' weight range.  I'm 5'7" and I really thought 165 would probably be good, cos I've always been 'big boned'.  Actually, I'm quite muscular, and carry my weight well.  When I got down to 144, you coulda knocked me over with a feather!  I'm currently set for 159, and will be quite tickled to see it.  It's very hard work this time around!

My original goal was to be under a bmi of 35 by June. I got there in December. My cousin came for Thanksgiving and he is built very similar. We are both 5'7" with a 27" inseam and we both wear 32 jeans. He also wears the size large shirt that I want to be in. He weighs 178. My goal is to be in the 170's by my birthday in July.

My surgeon set my goal, based on the average weight loss of someone my age and weight, it's  80 pounds total. About 40lbs in the first 4 months and 40 lbs more over the next 12 months.

I decided I wouldn't be "average" and sent my own goal. To weigh 180 pounds on (or before) 10/25/17.

I will be four months post op soon, in fact my 4 month check up is tomorrow. I have lost 49.5 pounds so far and expect to be 200 pounds at my 6 month mark.

My final goal is now 160 lbs.

My surgeons goal was the top off the normal BMI range. Once I achieved that, I reset my goal to 125 where I had been a couple of times in my life and thought I looked good. I am currently 10 pounds below that, but still in the normal BMI range.  My weight kept dropping though I had added calories to maintain, but apparently not enough. Then I had PS which hindered eating for about a week. I had been thinking I was too skinny, but I'm getting used to myself at this weight (it's been almost 2 months now).

I asked this question quite a while ago and some of the vets said to stop worrying about having a goal weight and just see where I end up.  I get that now though I didn't really at the time.

Although I ultimately know it doesn't matter, and my body is going to do what it does and I'll see what happens, it still feels strange to not have a defined goal. I've been losing weight for so long (or trying to) that it's all I know!

At 5'5", I started at 334 lbs. and am down to 188.  I haven't been this size in 30 years and weigh less now than I did when I was in high school.  My first goal was 220 (why I don't recall); then 212 (high school weight); I thought about 180, but downgraded it to 170, with an option for another 10 lbs.

I'm pear shaped and feel like my shoulders/collar bone areas are becoming thin; however, my big bum keeps telling me to hang in there.  I realize there will be a bounce back and will have to deal with it as necessary.  I also hope that some of the remaining fat realigns itself in a more pleasing configuration.

It's difficult to set a goal when your brain can't wrap around that size/number, especially if, like me, your weight loss journey started out at a higher weight and you have never seen that weight/size as an adult.  My ultimate goal of (gulp!) 160 hasn't been seen on me in almost 50 years.  My memory isn't that good!

My surgeon set my goal. I'm 5'2" and my lowest has been 156. I'm now 158/160 and she's perfectly happy with my weight. Me too!

My surgeon's goal was for me to get under a BMI of 30, also, but I know the older I get, the better my joints feel at a lower weight. I am in my 50's now. I notice the most active people older than me all see the be on the thin side, so that is why I keep my weight lower. I plan to be a very active senior!!

I am so glad to see this post!!! My surgeon did not discuss goals with me. So I have fought with what mine should be. I am going through a really tough time now. I had been losing so easily since I started my program in June '16. I had VSG in September '16. The weight felt like it fell off until mid-January. I am still losing but at a MUCH slower pace. So it turned into this brain battle of "how much weight should I really expect to lose, maybe "I should just be happy here". Unfortunately, this brain battle is also turning in to telling myself that I cannot get to some huge weight loss goal so give up and don't be so strict on my food intake.

Hearing others say that they cannot picture how they will look at a weight they cannot even remember being or set a goal early on is very helpful. I am sure everyone is motivated in their own way. I am more of a small goal, one bite at a time type of person.  I just need to concentrate on that next 5 lbs. Sometimes we just need to be reminded to work our program and let it work for us.

Started this journey 6/6/16 - 246.8lbs. SW 214 - 9/6/16 VSG. CW - 158. (9/15/17) Post VSG M1- 20, M2- 8.4 M3- 6.6 M4- 8 M5- 3.6 M6-5.8 M7- 1.5 M8- 1.5 GOAL - 142.

Never waste a second chance!!
