What do your splurge meals look like?

I'm 3 weeks out and really have no cravings at all...except pizza. When I see an ad or a picture of pizza I'm just like..THAT NOW! Funny enough I wasn't a huge pizza fan prior to surgery! I saw a recipe somewhere for mushroom stops stuffed with cheese and pepperoni. Maybe once I'm cleared for "real food" I'll give that a go!

My splurge is to make something in my smoker. The problem is that I have a hard time with not loading up the smoker with so much food that we can't eat it all.

I splurged for 50 years but it's no longer a part of my vocabulary or mindset.

That was part of my old mentality of dieting which is no longer relevant to me as I've changed my entire lifestyle.

I exercise everyday, plan all of my meals and record everything in myfitnesspal.

If there was something that I wanted that was off plan, I might have some and adjust my plan accordingly and maybe include some additional exercise but it hasn't happened yet.

The only thing that I really have to pay attention to is carbs because I know if I eat too many it will trigger serious cravings, so I would probably only have a bite or two of something like that.

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Ah - I remember.  In my first 6 months, I splurged daily on dark cholocate calcium.  These were 35 calories adn my daily calcium suplement.  I believe they were called Aurora or something.  I eventually had to get rid of them b/c I would have too many..

It's a little concerning that you're thinking about splurging when we're less than a month out from surgery.

I always feel like I'm splurging when I go to Panera all by myself and eat a salad - it's SO MUCH FOOD.  I probably have a salad every other month, maybe every three months?

As someone who is fighting BED, I know the slippery slope of splurging all too well.  Splurging becomes habit too easily and this habit leads to binge eating and obesity.

Oh, wow, I was OBSESSED with everything I couldn't have when I was at the same stage Mershmellow is now.  Yes, after 2 weeks pre-op and 1 week post-op liquids, soft foods were wonderful.  But after a week of them, and when I hit my 3 week stall, I think that's when I really started the deep mourning of food, and that stuffed, satiated, Ahhhhh feeling I used to get.  Not overstuffed and sick, but you all know what I mean.  I think the stall is what did it to me...not losing, wondering what was wrong, etc.

Once it broke, and I started losing again, and I was finally eating real food, it all seemed to go away.  I'll bet a lot of us go through that at about the same time.

Now, I sit here thinking...oy, I have to eat something, because I'm eating for nutrition and not for entertainment anymore.  It makes me laugh that I have to argue with myself to go get some food now lol

When I was on liquids, I definitely obsessed about eating non-liquid foods, but I don't remember wishing I could "splurge" on "junk food."  I was so excited to be losing weight and that things were working.  So soon after surgery the thought of eating off plan didn't cross my mind.

I hear you on the "ugh, I have to eat something" feelings.  I'm drinking my breakfast shake right now only because I know that, if I don't, I'll feel pretty bad by the time I can eat again at 1:30 which might cause me to eat a protein bar while I'm out instead of waiting to eat real food when I get home, and that's no good, so breakfast it is :P

I always chuckle when I see diet plans that say, "only eat when you're hungry!"

I am not thinking of splurging. I was just curious about if people have things they enjoy to eat once in awhile that isn't diet oriented. It wasn't meant to be about binging and stuffing yourself since the term splurge is meant more as an indulgence not an over indulgence. I do not have BED so there is no urge to binge for me.

Interesting topic!  I read the thread to see how the vets respond--always curious what's down the road for me!  I'm only three months out, and I remember shortly after surgery my mind was consumed with thoughts of food.  I dreamed about food, pinterested recipes, and got sad/mad about it.  Prior to surgery I had all the education and had dieted, and I was sure VSG was the perfect thing for me. But nothing really prepares you for after surgery.  If you're anything like me it was a shock to my system to be physically unable to eat off plan.  So, I mourned food and mourned binges.

Maybe this is not where you are, but you're question reminded me of how I felt at that time.  I'm so glad to say that I don't feel like that anymore.  If it is how you're feeling, stick with your plan, because I promise those feelings pass.  I would have never believed it, but it gets better.
