Taste

Just wanted to throw this out there.  I had sever issues with taste after surgery like many others.  Man stuff taste so sweet I couldn't do it, it was horrible.  I saw on a board somewhere that since we had been on liquids pre surgery and also post that one of the things that was happening was the taste buds were getting large and not being replaced because there was no "hard" food scraping them down to be replaced.  At least that is what I was told.  So with that being said I purchased a tongue scraper and used it and like magic, I had my regular taste back quickly.  May not work for all but for me it did.  Thought I would share just in case someone was having issues.

Hi CoachB,

That is interesting....had not heard that.  Thanks for sharing. I had taste issues for 3 months, my surgeon said it was due to the anesthesia.

Cool pro-tip there, CoachB.

I simply had attributed it to the smaller bites, more vigorous chewing and lack of palate being assaulted with so much junk food.

Post op, I could really taste things that were strongly flavored and it was a deterrent to fool around with most of the garbage foods I'd lived off for so long.

Never thought of the points you made.  Interesting.

Live, love and make the most out of what your surgeon has done for you...........live your life without excuses and without regrets.

My problem was with getting my protein shakes and protein in.  So sweet couldn't handle the taste.  Once I did this the sweetness lightened up and I could handle the shakes.

That's pretty interesting info. My tastes have changed a lot since surgery 4 months ago and still continue to change.

Tongue scrapers are disgustingly awesome.  The disgusting part is what you can scrape off even after brushing your teeth/tongue. I wouldn't be without one!

I am so excited to try this.  Nothing tastes right to me and all my old fave beverages taste gross.  Going right out to get tongue scrapers today, I really hope it works for me!!!!  Thank you, thank you!
