Currently 6 days post VSG. Every sip I take causes my sleeve to contract. Has anyone else had this experience? How long did it last for you?

Also 6 days post op and having the same issue. However for me it's only if I take a bigger sip and I dont even mean a gulp. Just like a teaspooon ful is spasmy. The frequency has decreased every day though and I'm on domperidone twice a day which helps with non foody related gas spasms.

I was having this problem already in hospital and mentioned it to 2 doctors who gave me a "ride it out" type answer. Wasn't offered any meds. I'm in Ontario though. We are years behind with VSG. They give everbody RNY unless medically contraindiacted.

Day of surgery I was having spasms and they gave me Valium. Two doses was all it took and the spasms stopped. You should call your surgeons office.

Interesting. I talked to the surgeon and internal medicine doc at the hospital and all they said was it was normal. I have Ativan....I wonder if it would work like Valium.

Ativan is in the same family as Valium, just a shorter half-life.

Took 1mg  and have had a 75% reduction in severity. Amazing.

My spasms weren't in response to drinking tho.  Mine was by the incision where my port was located when I had band and where they pulled out my stomach. Maybe different situation all together.

I just joined and am reading around...saw you mention having the band remove and are now sleeved.  I've had the band fro 11 years and am having it removed on teh 14th then waiting 3 months to have the sleeve done.

Any recommendations or high points/low points for the process?  I just started my full liquid diet and this afternoon is getting brutal!

My surgeon who did the band is also doing the sleeve...he warned me that i might not lose as much weight since i've had a previous procedure.  Are you finding that to be true?

thanks!

Have you tried different temperatures?  Hot tea, for example, might be better than ice water?
