My doctor's diet seems different than every other posted diet.

Most diets immediately post op are just straight liquid, clear diets. My doctor wanted me to start right away on 40-60g of protein through protein shakes. He told me 5 days of that, then the soft foods like yogurt and cottage cheese. Every where else has a liquids phase, thicker liquids phase with protein, then soft foods. I guess it's safe since the doctor told me to do it this way, just seems odd when everywhere else had protein done the second week.

Every surgeon has a slightly different plan based on what works best for their own techniques/patients.

My plan was similar to yours.  I had 2 weeks of liquids post-op (no clear liquid stage).  Then I had 2 weeks of pureed foods and 2 weeks of soft foods.

There are a zillion plans. I was on protein shakes the day I got out of the hospital, and didn't have to do purees. Just thoroughly chewed soft foods.

I know of a few plans that start soft foods like eggs the day after surgery. Those doctors are convinced it helps advance the diet without complications.

MOST doctor's plans allow crappy carbs like mashed potatoes, toast, crackers, etc. We really are better off ignoring those recommendations. Most nutritionists have no clue about how we should actually be eating.

Totally agree!  My personal surgeon was STRICT low carb from the get go and wanted us to do 20g or less and between 600 to 800 calories.  However, the nutritionist for this surgeon didn't agree and preached the "Eat whatever you want as long as you do protein first". Then I had to take a nutrition course and they just talked about getting the right daily grams of protein and 80/20 rule.  I was told quite a few different things and my doctor's after surgery instructions also included mashed potatoes and saltines while she was adamant in person about staying under 20 g of carbs.

Honestly, OH was the biggest help for me in figuring out how to eat after surgery.  I definitely followed the instructions for the 6 weeks after surgery but then I removed any of the processed carbs after I was off the food stages.  I stayed around 800 calories and 20 g of carbs during the honeymoon period.

Good luck with your surgery!!

I was drinking protein shakes the day after surgery in the hospital. My first 2 weeks was what they called bariatric liquids, basically if it can fit through a strainer it's fine. Of course at that point it was mostly about hydration and protein, so protein shakes were my main source and broth with unflavored protein added, and lots of water. The next 2 weeks added soft foods like cottage cheese, refried beans, yogurt, tuna/egg/chicken salad. Then we progress to "regular" foods as tolerated. It is amazing how each doctor does it so differently and still has successful patients.

Mine has no liquid diet beforehand (just lose 10 pounds) then 3 weeks of protein shakes post op...

I went straight to full liquids, the gave me runny cream of wheat while still at the clinic (gross). I was allowed shakes, yogurt etc right out of the gate

This was my plan too, full liquids right away. I had no puréed and went straight to soft foods at 2 weeks, then regular foods at 5 weeks although I am 7 weeks now and still slowly transitioning to regular foods as I tolerate them

I only had clears while I was in the hospital - and it included protein like broth, isopure clears etc. As soon as I was released, I was on full liquids whi*****luded yogurt.
