Chewing gum and how it affects you ?

Gum is a wonderful tool for me to keep cravings at bay, but I don't chew it a lot.  About a week after my surgery, I was craving something sweet, and decided that I would chew some Mentos sugar free gum, as a way to chew without actually eating.  Without thinking another thing about it, I chewed about 15 pieces of it in the middle of the night.  I went to bed soon after, and woke up with uncontrollable diarrhea about 2 hours later.  It was so bad that I had to change the sheets in the middle of the night.  (I know: gross) I'm very sensitive to sugar alcohols, and should have been more aware of what I was doing.

Needless to say, I will only chew one piece at a time now, and only when I'm really, really in need of that sweetness.

I chew everyday, multiple times a day..bit of a habit, always has been..

that being said, I did NOT chew for 3months after surgery...

I felt my stomach needed time to heal..
