Sleeve after Thyroidectomy

Hi all,

I had a thyroidectomy in 2011 for thyroid cancer. I have a consultation appointment scheduled with the bariatric surgeon in February. I have BCBCNC-State Health Plan and they do cover the sleeve. My question is this: Do you think BCBSNC will still cover me since I have a thyroid disorder? There is a sentence in the criteria that states "patient may not have any specific correctable endocrine disorder." I do take Synthroid to replace the thyroid hormone and meet all of the BMI requirements. Everyone at BCBS tells me they are not medically trained to answer this question. The only reason I am asking now is because I don't want to have to pay the $185 program fee and copay at the surgeons office if I am not going to be approved. I'm hoping that someone on here can give me a little more information than this!

Thanks so much!

I would contact your insurance co. and ask them to clarify.  Hopefully all works out for you.

The only way to know is to call your insurance company and ask!

The Bariatric surgeons office may know as well.  They are usually pretty savvy about what the insurance companies require.
