i had my surgery December 6th and I swear I am getting hunger pangs.  I don't feel full after my 1/4c of broth and I am worried they didn't do the surgery right or it hasn't worked for me.  Is this normal or or there something wrong.  I'm not minding the liquid diet too much I just wish I stopped feeling hungry. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

I just had mine on December 1st and I also wasn't feeling "full" and still don't (I'm on phase 2). I made a post about it and others on here said that basically our nerves have been cut so we don't feel hunger or fullness yet until 8 weeks out or so. The hunger you think you are feeling is probably head hunger. I got it too a little bit. I didn't "feel" hunger down to my stomach.. I felt like "damn I want a slice of pizza" just cause I miss it and miss chewing solid foods. I still feel that way. Hoping itll go away after getting used to not eating as much. It'll get better! :) we got this!!

This soon post-op, you can't trust anything your stomach is telling you. The nerves have been severed, so it's a lying liar that lies.

However, the hunger you're feeling is likely due to dehydration or acid. How much are you drinking each day? Are you on a PPI such as Prilosec or Nexium? Consider taking one and see if that addresses the hunger feelings.

As for fullness, you probably won't feel full until you get to solid food.  Liquids go right through you.

I was the same and told it was head hunger. I was freakin STARVING till I hit 5 weeks and was allowed to eat soft foods. As soon as I had soft foods my hunger completely went away. I was so scared I was gonna spend forever starving! But as soon as I ate, a couple tablespoons of my first scrambled eggs I was full. ? So there's hope for you! Just suck it up and get through the liquid and pureed stage and then you'll feel better when you start your soft stage.

Yes, we've all been there.  I had my surgery on Halloween.  What I discovered was that the "hunger" I thought I was feeling was just excess stomach acid.  Hearing the growling, and a sort of ache, sure made me think it was hunger.  Even though I take Prilosec OTC once a day, during the first 4 weeks after surgery, sometimes I needed a little extra help.  Gas-X worked, but I also had a prescription that was sent home with me for Zofran ODT for nausea.  An occasional one of those really helped a lot.

I'm ending Week 7 right now, and this eating 3 times a day is giving me problems.  I'm a foodaholic, so I used to eat just once a day late as I could, because once I started I couldn't stop.  Now I find myself actually saying "Aww, geeeez...I have to eat again!"  As my Grandma used to say...who'da thunk it?  lol

I am finding that I can't put off eating tho, not enough fuel going in to sustain me, and I get the shakes, so eat I do.  Just going to take some getting used to.

Getting through the first 4 weeks is hardest--it's better when you get soft foods, but when you actually get that first meat/poultry...you'll notice it doesn't take much to know you're full, even tho you can't actually feel it.

Good luck, and welcome to the Loser's Bench!!

Those first couple of weeks are the worst!  I remember being stuck at home and realizing how every freaking ad was about FOOD!

Right now on the liquid diet you should not ever feel full!  That is kind of why you are on a liquid diet.  You do not want to put pressure on the incisions.  Once you progress more you will get the full feeling.

Keep at it!
