Update on this 'random painful attacks' part 2
Long story short {to backtrack}, I have been having what I call 'gas pain attacks' which is similar painful attacks like gallstone attacks. Which I don't have a gallbladder - got that removed March 2013 after my VSG. I started having them after this surgery. I also had my appendix removed in Aug 2013. VSG Dec 2012. I love abdominal surgeries?
So, I had my MRI/MCRP test done last weekend to check for stones or sludge. Doc says he saw nothing. Zip.
Next step doctor wants me taking a med once a day called Librax. If I feel an attack come on I can take another (and go to the ER for more tests?). After that, he said he'd give me one for under the tongue, like if someone was having angina so it can act fast. Ridiculous and annoying! But, one day at a time.
Being a medical anomaly is never fun. :/ Do you have other options for docs? A specialist? A large well-regarded hospital like John Hopkins?

Sorry to hear that...
I am dealing with a lot of abdominal pain and cramps and I know how debilitating and frustrating they can be.
I had tests, scans, surgeries...etc... Now I know there is food that can contribute to me getting them. Or stress... Or iron...or... Yea... Sometimes - I can't associate with with anything.
We (me and my team of docs) call it IBS -C . I most lik6have SIBO so following a low FODMAP diet really helps to limit the attacks.
Rx - Hyoceamine -SL - really helps. I carry them with me all the time. I know that if they legalize medical pot in my state - I will get the vaporizer. I am sure this would work better than any pills, specially when the spasm**** Or during high stress time.
For a while - I used wine Or other alcohol to help with the cramps - pain. But that created a whole new set of problems - so I don't recommend that.
Btw- how is your iron level? A friend is dealing for years with unexplained gut issues and finally she was digmosed with Hemochromatosis. Her body have problem with getting rid of iron. Now we hope that she knows what is going on - she can get real help.

"Normal" means nothing. Sometimes they don't test some minerals - vitamins, and sometimes the normal is too low for our body to function properly.
my test show my magnesium as "normal" almost always... normal means "you not going to die from deficiency". The quality of life is a completely different story.
i.e. google magnesium deficiencies
The subject of subclinical or chronic latent magnesium deficiency has been one of alarm and increased emphasis in research communities. This growing attention is largely due to epidemiological (population study) links found between ongoing chronic low magnesium and some of the more troubling chronic diseases of our time, including hypertension, asthma and osteoporosis.
Compounding the problem is the knowledge that the body actually strips magnesium and calcium from the bones during periods of "functioning" low magnesium. This effect can cause a doubly difficult scenario: seemingly adequate magnesium levels that mask a true deficiency coupled by ongoing damage to bone structures. Thus experts advise the suspicion of magnesium deficiency whenever risk factors for related conditions are present, rather than relying upon tests or overt symptoms alone.
SIGNS OF MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY
The classic physical signs of low magnesium are:1 2 3
Neurological:Behavioral disturbances Muscular:Weakness |
Metabolic:Increased intracellular calcium Cardiovascular:Irregular or rapid heartbeat Among children:Growth retardation or "failure to thrive" |
