Waiting on Insurance Approval...How Long Did It Take For An Answer?
My surgeon's office just sent everything in to my insurance company for approval. I will ******vous wreck for the next 7-10 business days! haha... how long did it take for everyone to get their approval from insurance companies? If it makes any difference, I have BlueCross BlueShield PPO.
I, too, had BC/BS PPO, and it was about a week and a half for me to get notification from them that I was approved. But everyone is different, of course. A lot depends on what they required for you to accomplish pre-op and the results of that. I was required to do a 3-month doctor supervised diet before I could submit my paperwork. Good luck!!!
Thank you! I wasn't required to do that, but I did have to have a letter of recommendation from my PCP and a psychiatric evaluation. I got those and filled out all paperwork for my surgeon and they just submitted today. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time. Lol
I had BCBS IL PPO at the time, and I heard back in less than 24 hours.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

Insurance called me before they called the doctor, which was sort of funny. :)

In my case we did all of the pre-op stuff and I saw the surgeon immediately before approval. I am 100% neurotic and showed up at my surgeon's office with like 500 pages of notes on the DS and VSG... I am surprised he hasn't killed me yet, lol.
I had a PPO at the time so all tests were automatically approved which was basically amazing. So by the time they submitted the approval I'd already seen the surgeon, had the pulmonology, cardiac, and psych clearances. My surgeon's office was super on point. I decided to get the surgery after talking to my PCP in March, saw the surgeon maybe a month later, had surgery that june. Probably would've been faster. I spent more time waiting to see the darn lung and heart doctors (they had six week waits which was crazy) than anything. My bariatric center is awesome. I can't believe how fabulous the staff there is.

Haha...I am an over preparer too. I'm sure the bariatric coordinator at my surgeons office wishes I'd lose her email. Lol
