Gateway Foods

Ok, I was wondering if anyone has noticed that eating pork rinds is a gateway to carbs? I have not had them yet, kinda freaked out that things like that or if I were to start eating carbs would lead to more and more. I am just over a year and no bread, pasta, rice, flours of any sort, no sugars or sugar substitutes. Same thing with popcorn. I hear a lot saying the tend to go crazy on popcorn once they add it back in.  Am I being too paranoid or am I smart to keep out the 'substitutes' that 'to me' seem like gateway foods?

I think that it's wise to listen to that voice in your head.  For me, I try to avoid foods that would just be "filler" or "replacements."

Some foods can be a trigger for carb loading. And probably everyone has their own triggers.

I.e. diet soda is mine.

But not pork rinds. I can only eat one serving. Really... They are dense and unlike chips or crackers -- really fill me up and keep me full . I eat mine with NSA salsa , or guacamole, or even some spicy cream cheese dip.

Dr Atkins highly recommended then as a filling choice instead of carbs.

Bakery's spicy pork rinds is a staple for me.  One serving is 9 rinds but I can't eat that much.

I have pork rinds sometimes. Nice when I want something crunchy. One serving with a couple TBLS of hummus or a little cheese. It's very satisfying to me. I think popcorn would cause cravings for me because of the high carbs. I used to be able to eat a freakish amount if popcorn, so I'm afraid to try it. Same with sweets, I'd rather not wake up the beast ! When I try something new I pay close attention to how I feel the next day. The last time that I had sweets (It was before my surgery) the next day I felt so much hungrier than usual, it wasn't worth it.

Popcorn for me... but it isn't so much a gateway to other foods as it is a gateway to grazing.  I could eat popcorn all day long.  No restriction with it.

So so I either have to eat very controlled and prescribed amounts or (even smarter) avoid it all together.
