My Fitness Pal complaint

Hey everyone, happy November! I didn't come here for advice, I just needed to complain a little bit. I'm sure all you MFP trackers get this message if/when you complete your meal plans for the day:

"Based on your total calories consumed today, you are likely not eating enough."

I perused google to see if there was a way to opt out. I am eating 700-800 calories a day. It's adequate for me, I'm under MD supervision, and if I eat any more calories I will stop losing weight. I found lots of forums discussing this, whi*****luded a lot of sanctimonious people responding things like, "Maybe you should eat more then," or "This is a pro-anorexia question."

UGH! I get that the general population can eat 1200 calories and lose/maintain weight, but we can't. If that isn't hard enough, bariatric patients are ridiculed by anti-anorexia social justice warriors for doing the only thing that will get them to a healthy weight.

People don't get it. When I told one of my friends how many calories I eat, she exclaimed shockingly, "That's nothing!" Sure, for her it's nothing. She's never struggled with weight. She eats bread every day, drinks alcohol every day, eats carbs with every meal. That's normal and balanced for someone who's never had a weight problem. It's a lot harder for us.

Anyway, just venting. Hope you are all having a beautiful day!

This comes up a lot. It's just MFP lawyers covering their butts. They will never change it.

MFP still works just fine. Ignore the warning, or don't click on the complete the day button. Everything will still be saved if you don't.

Yeah, the message itself doesn't bother me as much as the hoards of people who don't understand WHY someone might need to eat 800 calories a day, and it doesn't mean we are "pro-anna."

I did read that the message was changed, and used to perpetuate the "starvation mode" myth. Frustrating!

I find Loseit and adkins let your calorie intake go low and no warnings....  We also have our own food and exercise tracker here called Health Tracker. Check it out

The pro-ana stuff is usually way less than we eat, actually.  Think like 300-500 calories.  This makes it especially irksome to me.

I don't know that it's just social just warrior-ing, as it is MFP covering their asses so they don't get sued, though. ;)

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I'd never heard of "pro-ana" before browsing those threads. Yikes.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with what MFP is doing (though I wish they'd allow us to opt out if we agree that we are under MD supervision), but the social warrior stuff I was referring to were many of the people posting in the threads, shaming people for even suggesting they might eat less than 1200 calories a day or whatever. I guess it just got under my skin a bit, knowing that if I ate the way these people would consider "healthy," I would continue to be morbidly obese for the rest of my life.

Go on one of the general boards on MFP and write that you are interested in weight loss surgery. You'll see ugliness like you've never seen before.

Hmmm....maybe we need some programmers to make an App just for WLS people?

Yeah that bugged me to early on... I like when it says if you eat like this you should weigh blah in 5 weeks. And without being 1000 calories it won't tell you.  I just had to realize that no matter if it tells me or not, I am still doing it.  Just like my trackers that keep short changing me and showing less distance!

Yup! I wanted to be able to use that feature. I like to put the pretty little bow on my day and it sucks to get shot down for doing a good thing. Oh well.
