Sashimi or not to Sashimi
Hi Guys!
Tomorrow I have a business lunch at a Sushi restaurant. I am 3 weeks, and at stage 3. Will probably be put on solids Thursday barring any surprises. I was told by ya'll and my NUT to avoid raw until my stomach has healed (5 weeks). It was suggested that it's not about being able to handle the raw fi****'s a matter of possible infection. As a data point, I know when my father had cancer he was unable to eat sashimi or raw oysters for possibly same reasons.
What would you suggest I nibble on? Avocado Salad? Hibachi Salmon? Teriyaki Tuna?
Any thoughts or experiences appreciated. Happy Halloween.
The crab used can be the fake stuff that's super high in sugar. Only opt for crab if it's real crab.

I'd go with any cooked fish, preferably something with lower sugar if it exists. Hibachi salmon with the sauce on the side?

How about Miso soup? Err on the side of caution....
Surgery: April 30, 2014: HW: 288 SW: 250 Achieved Goal 149 lbs: April 8, 2015 CW: 158 lbs (working on losing 65 lb regain as of June 1, 2021. Weight was at 215 lbs). Fighting every darn day!
At 3 weeks, I'd have soup. Not because your stomach can't handle anything, but because you'd be trying it for the first time, and if it doesn't sit well with you, hurling in public is so unattractive. Particularly in front of business associates/clients. There are plenty of meals at restaurants in your future. Tread carefully at this one.
I had sushi pretty early, and I wasnt good yet at sensing my 'full' feeling.. I ended up getting sick (sashimi)
Now, when I go get sushi with my wife or a coworker, I get a BIG clear soup (onion soup broth), maybe even two, and then a spicy tuna salad and eat a little and take the rest to go
Another option that I've found works for me, is if its a Thai/japanese place, I'll order tom yum off the thai menu. Its a hot/sour soup with veggies and I get chicken. I'll drink most of the broth, then I'll switch to the chicken at the end to put the hard protein in my belly and fill me up.
I get a bunch of water, protein, and nutrients from the veggies that were cooked. Is one of my favorites :)
