Is salt that powerful?

Hi Everyone-

I am almost 3 weeks in and have been down 26 pounds for a good few days now. I don't know what came over me today but I was salting everything and even ate a pickle ( I am on stage 3). I thought maybe it was my electrolytes because my BP was 94/52. I called the doctor who said I needed to stop with my BP meds. I did this but I have still been dizzy. Room spin dizzy like college frat party. So I kept with the salt and maintained ample water (24 oz every 2 hours).

This morning I am up 6 pounds. Could this really be water retention or am I just leveling off at the 3 week stall?

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance

It could be water retention.  If you were dizzy, you may have been dehydrated and your body is readjusting.

I had a lot of trouble with low blood pressure and dizziness - maybe 9 months after surgery for about a year.  Finally, I saw my cardiologist and he told me to eat more salt.  It really helped the dizziness.  I don't know when it stopped, but it hasn't been an issue for a while now.

Its good that you contacted your doctor about stopping the BP meds.  You probably won't need them ever again!  Happy day!

best wishes,

Carol

Thanks so much Carol,

I is scary at times. The low BP made me wonder if I was bleeding internally LOL. I appreciate the feedback on the salt. I was just a fiend for it yesterday. If I had had a virgin mary in front of me I would have consumed in no time.

I can handle retaining water. The weight will come off as it plans. I just want to make sure I stay healthy.

Thanks again

Yup!  Water follows salt.  I wouldn't worry about it for now.  It might take a few days to sort out.

Yup! I am very sensitive to salt. If I look at it too hard, my body decides it needs to retain the entire freaking ocean !

The ocean sounds nice. I kind of feel like I have backwater Mississippi! Gassy! LOL

I think retention no way you ate 6 lbs worth of calories. 1 lb =3,500 calories, so you would have consumed 6 x that amount no.  same as losing wt, 1 lb  = 3,500 calories, so to lose 1 lb you would have to cut 500 calories a day for 7 days = 3,500 calories or 1 lb. And you are amazing, 26 lbs in 3 weeks. WOW

A lot of time people go on a low carb diet and lose 5-10 lbs in one week. That loss is almost always mostly water weight.

I am at goal...of I see the scale drop 2-3 lbs ..I know I am dehydrated and that I need to add more salt or some carbs to keep the water in my body.

Passing out due to low BP (been there) is not good reward for losing 3 lbs.. Or 6.

Hi Hala

That is a good point and I am under no delusion that much of the 26 pounds is water. Although I am drinking ALOT of water. In fact I am worried that I am drinking too much and am stretching the sleeve. I can drink 24 oz in an hour with no issue.

Could what you suggest be my issue? I am drinking enough water but the salt is being flushed out too rapidly or I don't have enough carbs? Thank you for the feedback . I am not really concerned about the weight going up as much as why. Totally fine with slower loss if necessary for balance. Not a sprint for me.
