Food getting stuck
Friday night I was eating dinner - too fast and meat that was too dry. I did not feel anything get stuck but after I finished I felt like it was sitting like a rock in my stomach. Then I had sharp pains that felt like they were wrapped around my chest and were so bad I was having a hard time breathing. I started sweating and felt light headed.
I figured it was gas but it was so bad that I called 911. I live alone and was afraid I was going to pass out. Right after they got to my house, though I started feeling better.
I'm feeling fine but I just thought I'd post here. Can gas cause all this or does food really get stuck?

probably too dry. Ppl with VSG don't usually have food get" stuck" because our pyloric valve works appropriately.
Getting stuck is typically a rny and band issue.
I'm glad you are feeling better. I don't know if food actually gets stuck. I see posts about it occasionally.
I had one experience where I was eating a dense protein early out, maybe 3 months post op, and I didn't chew well, and I noticed something feeling stuck, and then a sharp pain that passed quickly. It felt like something was stuck and pushed thru. But its so hard to tell from the outside feelings.
I occasionally have gas pain that is quite intense. - again, not often, and I'm just guessing that it was really gas.
best wishes,
Carol

Could have been eating too fast or food too dry.....I find that if I eat too fast or too much, I get sweaty and light-headed but it passes in about half an hour.....I always say that I won't go for the "one last bite", but sometimes I forget and then get the reminder.
I'm glad that it passed and that you didn't need to make a trip to the ER.
Good friends are like stars.
You don't always see them but you always know they're there.
Too dry, didn't chew well enough, or too fast. All of those will give you that feeling. It happens to most of us. Once you are healed, it shouldn't cause any damage. Just be more careful in the future.
The good news is, the surgery is working!

Eating things that are too dry and eating them too fast can definitely cause this. Focus on eating foods that are more moist and slow down.

glad you are feeling better. Same thing happened to me today. Had breakfast at 9 am went to church 10 am service, left at 1 pm. Had to go to grocery store, et home 2:30. By the tie I eat lunch it was 3 way too long between meals. I only had a bottle of water til much which was4oz Damon and 6 broccoli florettes. Within30 min the pain in my chest unbelievable. Was waiting 30 min to get hot tea. Salmon was dry, didn't chew well and ate too fast. Run to bathroom, salive pouring out and 1 long slime. Happened again, massaged by chest, felt better. Waited 30 minutes, that teea felt awesome.
Same thing happened to me. I suspect you t was from eating too fast. My doctor said people can experience fullness in different ways including back pain, sneezing, funny nose, and as you and I experienced - chest pain.
I thought it felt like what a heart attach would feel like. Fortunately it didn't last very long. And I found that standing up and walking definitely helped things improve.
The good news is the feeling does pass - no matter how uncomfortable it is. And I've made a point to eat my food much more slowly and wait longer periods in between bites.
Good luck.
