Almost there...but the water...ugh

I am 15 lbs to my goal....that is AMAZING to me. However, I still, for the life of me...cannot get in the water. I drink coffee, tea (sometimes). and water....but never enough. Can't drink anything on my way to or from work because we are talking about an hour and a quarter, sometime a half, to do that drive everyday both ways. That would mean stopping on my way in or home to pee. So, I get to work, have a coffee, then I wait 45 min and have some breakfast. Now I am full. And cannot put any liquid in for quite awhile. By the time I don't feel full, I can't drink anything, because I will have lunch soon...and I am supposed to wait for at least 1/2 hr after I drink to eat. How do other people do it. I feel dehydrated all the time.

It isn't from lack of wanting to...it's more like I can't get the timing down or something.

HELP

I just talked to my nutritionist about this last week because I also have a hard time getting in all of the water. He said that coffee, tea, popsicles, etc. all count as liquid as long as you are not feeling dehydrated, then you should be okay. He did say TRY to get as much water in as possible but it is okay if you can not.

When I had my surgery they said to sip, sip, sip.  So I bought bottles/travel mugs I could bring everywhere to do my sipping.  In the beginning I also struggled in getting enough, but now the sipping is a habit and with my bottle/mug always next to me I usually exceed 64 ounces without thinking about it.  I also find that if I forget to bring my water somewhere and there is a lag that I start to feel hungry sooner than I should.

Oh and though drinking a lot used to make me pee a lot, somehow my capacity has increased over time as well.

We all have our little tricks to consume enough liquids. If you are a good way out from surgery you can actually drink right up to your meal as liquids run right through. I think they tell us that before surgery so we will be cautious right after and we are still healing. I understand not drinking after or during your meal for a specific time. I am frequently full w/ no desire to drink for an hour. Another idea on the way to work is too wait until you are only 30 min. from your location and then start to drink. When you get there go to the restroom , repeat on the way home. That has worked well for me. Good luck, keep trying different approaches.

Yes some days it's hard for me too. Monday through Friday I usually do ok because I am at work, sitting at a desk. I drink 20 oz before 10am, 20oz before 12 - lunch- then I can't drin****il about 2:30 so I drink 20 oz between 2:30 and 5. That's 60 oz plus whatever I drink at home. I too was told I can drink up until I eat. Weekends are a whole other story. I can't drink like that when I'm so busy running around, cleaning, or working outside.

Yeah, you'll have to work on your timing & maybe check where there are places to pee on your way to and from work. I'd suggest just sipping just a little bit till you're most of the way to work/home.

You don't have to wait after you drink to have something to eat. You do have to wait to drink after you've eaten. I've drunk liquids right up to the minute where I'd have a meal. Liquids go right thru.

Congratulations! I'm 15 pounds away from my goal too! Although it's taken me a little longer to get to that point than you.

If you're fully healed from your surgery, and I'm assuming you are since you're so close to goal, you no longer need to wait 1/2 hour after drinking to eat. You can drink up to a few minutes before eating. The no-drinking-after-eating rule still applies, as you know if you've ever tried to drink on a full sleeve -- bad idea.

On Oct 29th, I will be a yr out. Nobody ever told me I could drink up until the time I eat before...cool...I will try that and also starting to drink 10 min or so from work and home...I try to drink more at home, but end up waking up a few times at night to pee. Sigh.

Not drinking after eating is more important than not drinking before...so I drink right up until meals.I set my phone or kitchen timer for 30 minutes, not only to remind me not to drink, but to remind me to start drinking again.

The first year I really had to schedule and had to leave a water bottle on my night stand so I could start as soon as I woke up. I do find hot liquids easier- coffee tea. and don't do a lot of plain water ... usually 2/3 water and 1/3 vitamin water zero, Bai5 or the 5-calorie cranberry juice... something to flavor it. Don't care for crystal light, mio, and those types of things. I do use a cup with a straw... find that easier as well. Not using straws is really old-school advice... especially once you are further out there is really no reason not to use one.

Magically at one year I could drink normal again and have no problem now... So there is hope :)
