So about 2 months ago, i got a new car. after about a week, i felt like i had a shin splint, but i thought, oh, its just me getting used to the new car, new seat, it will go away in a couple of days. well, it did not. a couple of days has turned into a couple of weeks and a couple of months, not only do i still have pain in my leg, but i developed what is called "drop foot" or "foot drop" whatever you want to call it.

i have been to several doctors, an orthopedic, a spine specialist, a neurologist. i have gotten 3 MRIs done , and EMG, and blood work.

Thankfully, everything is coming back normal, excpet my B12 is a little high. BUT i still have this drop foot issue.

Has anyone else experienced this?  the neurologist said that it is common with people that have had weight loss surgery because since you lose so much weight, that the nerve is very close to the skin and it can get pinched or it can also happen from crossing your legs too much which i find myself doing now because its more comfortable. ( i work sitting down all day )

If anyone has gone thru this, please let me know your outcome...

Thank you !

I've never heard of it, and I've seen thousands of people with myriad problems come through OH.

Good luck, and keep us posted. You might well help someone else.

I had a coworker who had a problem with drop foot stemming from a pinched nerve in his back.  He is a very thin and active guy in his early 60s and he ended up having a very successful back surgery.  I hope you get a resolution soon!

I do vaguely remember one post from several years ago about this. Perhaps try a search to see if you can dig it up. I don't recall if a resolution was found or not though. Fingers crossed you find a solution.

Found the post- it was from 2010. Not very helpful unfortunately. If you do a search on peroneal nerve damage you get a few hits. I did not look through them all.

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. You gave some important information in your post. First that your scans and labs are all normal. That is great news, rules out any major health concerns. I think you also mentioned what I would consider a large contributing factor. You sit with your legs crossed a big portion of the day. If you pull up a diagram and look at the location of that nerve it could easily be effected and compressed by that position, causing a decrease in your ability to control your foot. Have you been to PT? I am sure you are trying not to aggravate the issue by crossing your legs, it is a hard habit to beak. Is this supposed to resolve itself with time and decreased pressure? I would think that would be likely since it has not gone on for an extended amount of time. Hope you feel better soon. Keep us posted.

I had foot drop for a while after my surgery 10 years ago. The dr said it is common after large weight loss. The good news is that it went away after a couple of months
