THANKS FOR ANSWERING BACK.  AT 5 WEEKS, IS WHEN THEY TOLD ME TO EAT A REGULAR DIET.

( 1000-1200 CALORIES, 100G PROTEIN, LESS THEN 75G CARBS, )

I USE BALSAMIC VINEGAR SALAD DRESSING...LOW FAT...JUST  LETTUCE TOMATO AND CUCUMBERS

I HAVE NOT USED MY FITNESS PAL, I GUESS I SHOULD START TODAY.

MOST DAYS ITS HARD TO REMEMBER TO EAT OTHER THAN DINNER...THAT COULD ALSO BE MY PROBLEM

I HAVE BEEN UNDER A LOT OF STRESS

Sadly not all surgeons have any background in nutrition and it doesn't take much for a person to cal themselves a nutritionist. So you can't always take the info you get about diet from your doctor as truth. And, clearly, the advice you've been given isn't working!

Low fat doesn't necessarily equal healthy or low cal or low sugar. In fact, fat is a healthy part of a diet.

I recommend that you start tracking everything you put in your mouth with MyFitnessPal. Otherwise, you have no way of knowing how many calories you're consuming or how much protein you're getting in. Also, work to get your liquids to a minimum of 64 ounces a day.

Skip the Tostitos completely. Carbs like chips should be almost completely off-limits until you hit goal.

what do you eat? how much? 4 oz of protein at a time doesnt leave much room for vegetables.  I still eat quickly.  I guess i need a menu...i feel like im just left to figure it out on my own.which is why i use this board and forums for advice.

thanks again

At this point, you don't really need to worry about veggies. Even now I tend to only get a bite or two of veg with my meals since my main focus is protein and, like you say, 4 ounces of protein doesn't leave room for veg!

At three months out, I was eating less than 500 calories a day and it was mostly protein shakes.

My medical team was fine with that and I lost weight consistently.  Somehow the rules have changed and people seem to be told it is OK to eat 1000 or more calories a day.  You are keeping your body in maintenance mode by eating as much as you do.

What you need to do is use a food scale to measure everything you eat and then log it to My Fitness Pal.  Restarting weigh loss again means eliminating 500 calories a day to lose a pound a week.

Make it a challenge to get those calories down while keeping your water and protein up.

IM ACTUALLY THINKING OF RESTARTING PROTEIN SHAKES AGAIN.  EASIER TO MAINTAIN CALORIES AND PROTEIN INTAKE FOR ME.  DO YOU THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA? IM OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS ALL DAY LONG LOL

No. Protein shakes will not make you feel full or sated. This means you'll feel hungry and unhappy a lot.

This is the time to learn how to eat correctly and in a way you can maintain for the rest of your life. You can do this. It just takes a bit of hard work and dedication to figure out in the beginning until you get the hang of things.

I drank protein shakes for most meals for the first two years.  But you have been eating regular foods so going back to protein shakes would be too hard for you.

What you do need to do is buy a digital scale and weigh and measure all of your food and then log it to My Fitness Pal.  Don't try to change anything, just record everything honestly.  I know that I never eat 1000 calories a day.  It might be 978, 1392, or 1888.  I don't eat four ounces of protein.  I measure in grams.  A serving of salmon could be 85 grams or 113 grams and I can't tell without my scale.

It is too easy to guess wrong.

When you have a few weeks or a month of data, you will have your answers.  Let us know if you want some help once you have that data.
