Help me understand this calcium stuff..
So they have me taking 1000 mg a day of calcium because that's the daily recommended value. I already have 2 cups of milk a day with my shakes and that is 60% of my calcium. So why do I need to take so much calcium? I've already asked my doctor, waiting for a response as he's out of the office, but I want to see if anyone can give me insight. Does milk not let you absorb calcium?

Your doctor will give you the best answers to your questions. As I mentioned in another post about vitamin/mineral supplements, micronutrients are absorbed mostly through the stomach lining. Surgery removes most of the stomach lining, so higher-than-normal vitamin/mineral supplements are essential to maintain good health. Your doc will recommend the types and amounts of micronutrient supplementation you may need.
