Hi everyone,

After lurking on the boards for a very long time, I finally decided I was ready to introduce myself. (Seriously - a couple years! You guys are way more amazing and informative than you know). I'm a 33 year old female from British Columbia, Canada. After 2 years of wait lists, I had my orientation in February and am now scheduled for VSG on Sept 6/2016. The plan is to cure my type 2 diabetes and get healthy enough to have another baby. Super excited and nervous all at the same time. I've started my pre op diet as of this past Monday and any thoughts/advice would be amazing! :)

Welcome to the board and congrats on your upcoming surgery!  Mine is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, 8/23.  I have found this board to be extremely informative as well.  That pre-op diet is no joke!  But it gets better after the first week (I've only had 2 weeks of it).  My only advice during the two week diet, when you start thinking about food and hunger, distract yourself.  Think about something fun to do, pamper yourself with a warm bath, go for a walk, etc.  I've even drug out a coloring book.  Remember how long you've waited and how far you have come.  And what you are working toward!  You've got this!  Keep us updated on how you are doing!

Welcome! I'd suggest reading back on the boards and finding old posts. You'll find that a lot of questions come up frequently, and you can find quite a bit of good advice.

If you haven't read it yet, I've found that "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" is a very helpful pre-op resource.

Hi! I am also new on here and had my consultation yesterday.

I am really nervous and scared about surgery. Is this normal?!?!

I was also given the choice of doing an optifast diet for a year or sleeve surgery not sure which one I should choose!

Any information or guidance would be appreciated.

Short and sweet - yes, it's normal. :)  I'd choose the sleeve, but it's your decision so do lots more research to make sure you're as informed as you can be.  Good luck!
