Truly it is awesome for our needs. Fast, convienent, and able to cook very healthy meals in it.  Dinner can be done faster than leaving the house to pick up take out! I use it to make my own yogurt, and it pays for itself in under 2 months just from the yogurt savings alone. (You need the 7+1 model for this.)

I have been wanting an Instant Pot for so long, but never pulled the trigger.  I just ordered the IP7-1 from Amazon.  Cannot wait to start using it!  I have no idea where to start.  What would you suggest that I fix for the first dinner that would be different from the crock pot but just as easy?

Congratulations!!

Honestly, on the Facebook group page I normally recommend this super easy mac and cheese meal, but it is not so weight loss phase friendly. I do swap out the noodles for a high fiber/protein type, and use Cracker barrel reduced fat cheddar cheese, which really helps the stats... but I am in maintenance so have a little more wiggle room. Here are a couple of things that I would try:

  1. Hard boil eggs. I know, seems silly, right? But there is no comparison- they peel crazy easy due to the pressure cooking. Even farm fresh eggs, which if you have never attempted to peel before can be a real pain in the butt! Put a cup of water in the cooker, use a trivet, pile room temperature eggs in, steam for 6 minutes. Then 6 minutes NR (natrual release- just leave it alone for 6 minutes, the display will show L006 once there. Releae the pressure, put the eggs in an ice bath for 6 minutes. Perfect. This is referred to as the 6-6-6- method. I have since started going 5-5-5, so there is some wiggle room depending on how you like your eggs. Poached eggs- use a silicone cupcake holder or ramekin on a trivet, steam for 2 minutes then quick release.
  2. Yogurt- I have a post in the IP group with directions. Awesome yogurt and you will save a small fortune!!
  3.  Pulled Pork. I will post a recipe in the IP group. Simple to do, and better than what I get in restaurants. Ribs are the same way. I posted the recipes for this previously in the vsg forum if you don't want to wait for me to put recipes up- just do a search.

Those are a couple of easy ones to get you started. Common newbie mistake- setting the "timer" instead of setting it to cook. For example, with the eggs- press the steam button, the "-" button to take it down to 6, then leave it alone. After a few seconds you will hear it beep and the display will change indicating it is staring the process. It will beep when it is done. I use the manual function the same way. Do not use the steam function when cooking food that is directly on the bottom of the pot- use the manual setting instead.

Mine is on its way from Amazon. Woot! I can't wait to try all the recipes, but it'll be a little while yet. I'm less than a week out from surgery now.

I eat it with a drizzle of SF Torani Caramel syrup over it- forgot to put that in the recipe. You are too early out for fruit to go on top- but that is good too.
