Binge Eating Disorder
Dear Gwen, You have done a courageous thing by putting yourself out there and know that you will help others with your thoughts. Sounds like you have been through a lot lately and we all know what unusual life stresses do to people with overeating issues.
Yeah, weight control really is a head game long term so you are right to focus on it. I saw a book advertised called Mindful Eating by New Harbinger Publications. I have not read it but do have some of their other books on anti anxiety strategies which are helpful.
I don't think I am a binge eater any more but before vsg I sure was. Not sure how I transformed except the vsg would not let me binge and I tracked everything I ate for four years. I have regained about 6 pounds and should probably start tracking again.
Sorry, have no experience with Vyvanse but do take anti anxiety and anti depressants which indirectly help with food issues. It can be hard to find a good professional. Took me years from when I first felt I needed one. But worth the effort.
Anyway, we are all pulling for you and hope you will check in. Its good to unload this stuff sometimes. Take care. Diane S
Thank you. I've read numerous books on mindful eating and I started seeing a therapist regularly before surgery - sadly, those things fall under the umbrella of "I've tried everything and nothing has helped."
It's very frustrating. I'm glad that there's a medication to try having exhausted all other options!

Hello,
I am sorry for all of your recent struggles. I hope the Vyvanse is helpful for controlling your symptoms. If it is not another medication used to treat BED (but off label I believe) is Topamax. It's an anti-seizure medication I was prescribed for chronic migraines. This medication reduced my urges to binge and even my obsessive food thoughts. It makes my brain feel like what I think a normal person feels like.
Good luck to you!
Thank you! I'm aware of the existence of Topamax, as my partner takes it, but figured I should start by asking for the FDA approved option. :)

Gwen, I've been thinking of you. Thanks for checking in. It sounds like you've been dealing with a lot. I hope the Vyvanse works for you. I know a few people who have been successful with it. Keep us posted.

I'm so glad I found this post. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this. I get it 100%. I just logged onto OH tonight for the first time in years. Yes, years. Maybe 2-3? You're not alone. I am in the same boat right now. I'm going through a divorce, I'm on my own with my 3 daughters, and have gained 20lbs since my lowest weight. I'm feeling terrible. It's my head. I've said from day one that the mental part of surgery was the hard part for me. I had no idea about Vyvanse, but will be calling my Dr tomorrow.
Heh, I definitely knew that going into the surgery. :D I doubt that I ever would have been able to recognize my illness for what it was without having that first year post-op in remission!
