Cricket flour- anyone try it?

Wheat flour is from a plant. Cricket flour is the sintered flesh of crickets. Burnt cricket meat, but it's still meat.

I could dessicate and grind a ribeye into flour. Meatcakes?

I could probably do that if you could turn the meat flour into a donut!

Oh hell, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it and try it, but if the opportunity arose to try it, ABSOLUTELY! Why the hell not, right?

People eat things called Veggie Burgers which are about as close to burgers as cow **** is to ice cream. So cricket flour...SURE!

I love a good veggie burger! I think I am in the same camp with you- willing to try it, not sure if I am willing to order it though. Still debating-

Cricket flour does sound gross but lots of people in third world countries get their protein from insects.  We are blessed to be able to afford animal sources of protein.  As for other ways to bake, you can use nut flours, particularly almond flour.  Been a long time since I did low carb baking but if someone really wants some recipes I can look some up.

I would definitely try it. I wouldn't eat a whole cricket, but flour - sure.  I guess I really like baked goods, lol!

I understand that we are culturally socialized to be repulsed by the idea of eating bugs, but my father (a biology teacher) has pointed out that bug-based proteins are cheaper and more environmentally friendly to farm than conventional protein sources.  Interesting.

I bet it's expensive. I probably would try it but not consume it on a daily basis or anything.

I'd probably give it a go. Other parts of the world eat tons of bugs... I ate crickets and grasshoppers  while traveling in Thailand. They werent that bad. Crickets taste kind of like dirt. Grasshoppers werent bad, either, except their body pops when you bite it. That was kind of gross

For sure couldn't eat the bug- but maybe flour. Yuck- but thank you for sharing what it tasted like!

They say if you are lost in the woods, bugs are a good thing to eat. Personally, I plan on that never happening. I guess if someone presented me with an already cooked item that had the cricket flour  in it, I would try it.  But will I go out and get some?  Nope.

Around here there are lots of snails. They are of the culinary variety considered a great delicacy. But no one eats them because they eat dog poop and other lovely things.  They say if you want to eat them, you have to catch them and put them in a container with nothing but corn meal in it for a couple of weeks so all the bad stuff is out of them.  I used to think escargot was a big delicacy.  Now I would rather eat worms.

Fortunately there are plenty of good things to eat around here and for most of us. We are lucky. Diane S
