Denial

Sad update for me. 11 days before I was due to go in for surgery, which was supposed to be tomorrow 7/6, I got notice that my insurance denied it. Apparently bariatric surgery was dropped from my coverage and I wasn't notified. I'm devastated, I'm crushed. I can't believe that after 7 freaking months of dieting and preparation I've come this close to be shot down. I'm not usually a depressed person but I seem to be stuck in a funk. I went and bought a treadmill so I can continue to workout and eat right but I have gained 15 pounds in just over a week because of the stress and depression. That's so disheartening. I don't know what to do. Just venting here because most of my family is glad it was denied and I have to vent.

SO sorry this happened to you but keep your chin up.  Where there is a will, there is a way.

How come the insurance coordinator did not find out until now? They should have had all the information for your policy at the very beginning

I started this process in November 2015. At the time it was covered as long as I did the 6 month supervised diet. I did all that and the pysch testing and then in January, apparently our policy changed and we weren't notified. That's what I'm being told anyway.

I'm so sorry to hear of this.  I can't imagine how frustrating this is.  I hope you find another way to make it happen.

best wishes,

Carol

So sorry that you have been denied and that you lack family support.  Knowing what I know now, If this was me, I would do one or all of 3 things.  1. I would get a loan and go to Mexico,  2. Read all you can on Overeaters Anonymous. download Laurie C's outline of the 12 steps @ Here 3. Read all you can on this guy Here and his youTube channel.  He is a weight loss surgeon with a diet plan (book: A pound of cure) for those who can not afford weight loss surgery.  Just options.  Hope this helps.

Any chance of appealing it on the grounds that you were already preparing before they changed the rules? Probably not since your Dr hadn't sent in the paperwork but it wouldn't hurt to try.

My ins didn't cover WLS either. As suggested I went to Mexico. Under $5,000 to change my life was well worth it. A good investment in myself.

I am sorry you had this experience and after so much preparation. It is devastating.  I wish you good luck whatever you decide to do.

My insurance plan does not cover wls so Mexico is an option for me.  How do you do research on a physician that is out of the country?

Insurances change every January.  I am sorry that your company did not provide any notices or documentation of their new plan.

I am thankful that your surgeon did not do the surgery and then present you with a huge bill.

You may be able to change your coverage and have the surgery in 2017.

Most of the time you can review your next year coverage in October.
