Liquid stage - inconsistent

Hi all -

I'm 10 days post op and feeling pretty good, but I seem to have a pattern of inconsistency in how much liquid I'm able to take in.

In the morning I usually start with a flavored water or tea, and have no problems. By the afternoon, my stomach seems to tighten up and I find I'm not able to take in more than the smallest sips. By the end of the day, things loosen up more and I'm able to drink a full 20 oz bottle of water in half the time.

My surgeon told me I should feel like I can more fluids in with each sip by now, and sometimes that feels like the case but just as often I feel like I'm back to the first days of post op. This happened yesterday after taking a long walk (and building up a good sweat).

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this, and if so have you figured out any changes that helped.

Thanks very much!

I have that problem in the mornings - everything still feels tight.  The only thing I can comfortably get down is hot tea.  Maybe try some warm broth or tea in the afternoon?

I'm 18 months out and still struggle with liquids. I used to cown an entire Dasani 16 oz bottle in one breath.  Now I struggle to drink plain water. I do hot tea or add Crystal Lite or lemon or lime to get the water in. It doesn't make sense but the water truly FEELS different.

Hi there,

I had the RNY 18 months ago and the day of my surgery I had a full bottle of water. My surgeon found out and wondered where I got it and I told her that the hospital people brought it to me. I was scared to death and she told me not to worry. I am a water lover and needless to say I was happy.

Good luck and you came to the right place. Listen to the vet's.
