Hitting Protein Goals Without Shakes

I'm almost at 2 months post-op and still rely heavily on protein drinks to help me reach my goals each day.  Will this always be the case or are there VSGers who can reach 60-80g of protein solely through food?  Just curious...I can't picture a day when I am able to eat enough protein without needing protein drinks!

It's absolutely possible, though I didn't do so reliably until I was a few months out. For example:

B-- Greek yogurt

L-- protein bar

S-- beef jerky

D-- frozen meatballs with some tomato sauce

S-- string cheese

I haven't had a shake since before surgery.  I usually hit around 60g of protein, which according to my nutritionist is fine since i have plenty of energy.  Chicken, eggs, and yogurt are a great source of protein.

It is absolutely possible.  There are many people who follow haven't had wls and follow a low carb lifestyle and don't rely on shakes.  granted, they don't have restriction issues to work within. Most of them are eating calories more consistent to people in maintenance here but here is a menu I came up with off the top of my head.  I ran the numbers to make sure it met 60 grams of protein.

b: 2 eggs, scrambled

l: 1 cup greek yogurt with 1/2 cup berries

s: 1 oz. almonds

d: flank steak and steamed zucchini.  Substitute lean protein of your choice.

I meant to put in amounts for dinner.  3 oz. flank steak and 1/2 cup steamed zucchini.

Once I was able to eat 3 ounces at a meal, I could make my protein numbers without protein drinks, or adding protein powder to my foods. This happened at about 4 or 5 months post op, though many people can eat larger quantities earlier.

I ate only dense protein until I could make my protein numbers and still have room for more.

I remember at 5 months out that I could get my protein in and have enough room to have a little veggie.  I never enjoyed veggies more than that day!  hehehe

best of luck on your weight loss journey

Ah, yes...I have been craving a good salad for 2 weeks now!  There's just no room left for salad though, so I'll have to wait!  At 7 weeks out, I'm eating about 2oz of protein per meal (usually tuna mixed with hummus).
