Getting closer to setting a surgery date!! Excited and scared.
I only have two more appointments left then the doctors office can do all the insurance stuff then I will be able to get scheduled. The scheduler is guessing it could be the middle to end of July! I have mixed emotions about this. I am excited because of how I will feel in 6-8 months. Scared because of the surgery part. I have severe asthma and I had attempt the Roux-en-y open surgery in 2006. 15 mins into the surgery I had an asthma attack on the table and they had to stop the surgery. :( Although things are different now. I am not smoking anymore and I am able to manage my asthma very well. Plus a few weeks prior to surgery I had a pretty bad cold. So a lot of factors played into the attack on the table. They called it the perfect storm. But I am still scared/nervous. Does anyone know the average time for the sleeve surgery? I know my doctor mentioned it but I cant remember. As we get closer I hope it will be ok to ask for prayers..
Thanks
The total process for me was about an hour and a half, including getting wheeled back from preop, going into recovery, etc. The surgery itself was 30 minutes approx (is what I was told)

I hope your breathing is not an issue this time. My surgery was less than an hour. Not too bad.
best wishes,

Congrats on your journey & on being so close to surgery time! I am near the same point as you, I will receive my surgery date soon and nerves are certainly increasing! It is certainly ok with me to ask for prayers!!! I will pray for a successful and safe surgery and recovery for you! Glad to hear you no longer smoke and your asthma has improved.
I was wheeled into the OR around 8:15ish (I might be off by 15 minutes; I was so drugged up that I don't remember exactly), surgery was scheduled for 8:30, and I was in recovery around 10am. I spent more time in recovery than I did in surgery because the pain meds (Dilaudid)/anesthesia were making me really, really nauseous.
You'll do great! The only time I ever had any regrets was when I was really nauseous that first day and felt so, so sick. Once they changed my pain meds, I felt a million times better and haven't regretted it since. I was up and walking same day, home about 36 hours after the surgery, and up and moving around my house (and even unloading my dishwasher--slowly!) by day three.
