5 Day Pouch Test

Your surgeon is treating you like an idiot.  Rather like him saying he operated on your tummy.  You're a grown up, you deserve his respect.    If it were me, I would ask for it.  You teach people how to treat you.

I am not perfect, will never claim to be, but for those that are, I applaud each and every one of you.

No perfection here and none was implied.  Nice straw man though.

Personally, if my surgeon did not use correct terms for a portion of my anatomy that he himself altered I'd run far, far away and fast.

But that's me.  You go right ahead and do you.  Just don't expect folks to ignore and not correct you when you give out incorrect information.   There are lots of newbies on these boards at times and many of us feel an obligation to provide them with facts and not fads.

Hey there duff...I am used to seeing you on "the other site".  This is completely accepted on TT....just shows you how each WLS site views things differently.  Lol glad this helped you.

The pouch test just sends you right back into the old "eat anything I want, gain weight, and panic" mentality.  We had this surgery to get out from under that failed notion.  The goal after WLS is to begin a new lifestyle.  That means choosing to eat right EVERYDAY... even on vacation.  You could have "reset" just by going back to low carb/high protein eating (like you are supposed to do anyway).  The pouch test just gives you permission to do it over and over again and, after a while, it won't work anymore just like any other fad diet.

You would be better served by truly changing the way you relate to food.  There is no reason to eat anything you want on vacation.  You can have just as much fun while making good food choices.

I am almost 6 years out, within 5 pounds of my lowest weight, been on several vacations, and I have NEVER done the pouch test.  I choose to eat correctly everyday.  If I don't, I know I will regain my weight.  Some times I screw up, but not very often.  When I do, I go right back to my plan the very next meal.  I am not someone who does moderation well.  If I did, I would never have need to resort to surgery to lose weight.  I take this second chance at life seriously.

What works for one does not necessarily work for the other. That is what is lost in this string of posts. I would obviously love to be perfect and I am not, for those that are perfect and stay on plan 100% of the time, I applaud you. There are many that do fall off plan and for those this is a viable option and no different than cutting carbs. The 5 DPT does follow the progression of my program and helped me to reset my thinking more than anything. My Surgeon has always referred to my VSG as a pouch, so again, terminology is different everywhere and I will use my  surgeons terminology.  am not an expert, but have enjoyed great success and will continue to do so. If I can help one person, I am happy.

Use any terminology you want, but you do not have a pouch; even if that is what your surgeon refers to your altered anatomy as.

If your surgeon keeps referring that your sleeve is a pouch then I can understand why you think a pouch test is ok for you. Blindly following your surgeon & his constant misuse of terminology won't help you. You might want to think what else is he calling what he did to your body & didn't do that. Maybe you got the rny.

Terminology is important, it's not different everywhere. Misuse of the word is everywhere.

Again repeating the stages after you have a fully matured sleeve isn't needed anymore. The 5 day pouch test is a fad whenever you have to keep going back to it to get back on track. No one claims to be perfect here everyone has an indulgence or a few at some point after surgery but going back to the 5dpt reemphasizes the diet mentality rather than the lifestyle change required after surgery. You could've just as easily gotten over the carbs on day 6.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel

Actually the 5 day pouch test was a brilliant marketing concept by a lady named Kaye Bailey.  Now you can get the test for free online, but when she first promoted it in 2007, you bought her book, and a 5-day pouch test kit for about $50.

She found a way to make a lot of money from people who had weight loss surgery.  You can still buy her books and cookbook at her site.  She advocates the test for any type of bariatric surgery.

Whether or not the concept really cures the carb problem, she is a fantastic marketer and money maker and I wish I would have thought of something so simple and made so much money.
