Exactly Betsy M. I will always listen to my program first and foremost, glad to see you understand that the 5dpt is also just cutting/eliminating carbs, but following a program to do so.

I'm only 2 months out, but already worrying about maintenance down the road.  Backing up and restarting makes good sense to me so I'm going to remember this when I get off plan.  My support group leader says that she does 1 week of our pre-op diet to reset every once in a while.

5 day pouch test=fad diet for WLSers.

I would be ready to kick someone if I had to go back to shakes. I would be a hungry, angry PITA, and someone would probably throw me a ribeye to shut me up.

I was ready to kick myself for getting in that predicament. I was a pre op diabetic and the biggest mistake I made in the two weeks was eating Krispy Kreme donuts. Once I had one, I could not help myself. I am just happy that the added pounds are gone and that I know I will not put myself in this position again.

I will gladly choke down a shake if it means somebody throws steak at me.

Don't think it's a fad?

Here's one big clue that it just might be:  you don't have a pouch.  If you are sleeved, you have a smaller, but fully functional stomach.

If you did liquids for a few days or whatever that's one thing.  But you can't do a "pouch test" without a pouch.  The very fact that you bought into that whole thing without even realizing it wasn't designed for sleevers smacks of the fad mentality.

Is it important what we call it?  My doc refers to it as a pouch...I am very aware of the difference between vsg and roux en y, but I don't think it's necessary to attack someone because of what they choose to call their stomach....especially on what is supposed to be a support forum.  Come on, play nice!

Also...not sure what your diet stages consisted of, but if you read the pouch test guidelines, they are the food stages that we progress through after surgery...whether you have a pouch or a sleeve, the stages are pretty much the same, no?

Play nice? Amy was not mean or harsh.

And yes, terminology DOES matter. You don't have a pouch. No, the stages aren't pretty much the same. Some people don't have a shake requirement. They go right to protein-forqard food.

Ok, playing nice (because talking to grown women like they're 5 is playing nice, apparently)

I've never had a protein shake or protein bar.  The 5 day pouch test made someone a lot of money.  You buy into it.  Others think it's a stupid fad.  Nobody dies, but people will look at you a lot differently because of what you replied to Amy.

Play nice!

My surgeon has refers to the sleeve as a pouch. I will always follow his advice and terminology. My program also recommends the 5dpt, not to test your pouch, but to reset a mindset. to get one on the right path.

I am not perfect, will never claim to be, but for those that are, I applaud each and every one of you.
